Top Abrams advisers outlined her prospective case to The Associated Press, stressing that the Democratic candidate hasnât finalized a decision about whether to proceed once state officials certify Kemp as the victor.
Next theyâll invite Kemp over for dinner and outline their strategy directly to him, as a courtesy.
Under Georgia law, Abrams could file a challenge against Kemp or his successor as the secretary of state. The challenge must be filed within five days of certification in a trial court of the county where the chosen defendant resides.
Plenty of time. Letâs wait until the evening of the fifth day to actually do anything.
Where ever this is going, or ends up, thereâs no question Stacy Abrams is a remarkable leader, brave, clever, effective, gifted, indefatigable, inspirational, smart, visionary, and deserves a better commentary on what she does than some, obviously, are capable of providing.
I canât think of anyone in the country NOW more trustworthy with the mandate to lead the great civil rights movement of this bigoted twisted former slave state, in pursuit of and to secure the most basic right of all to the endurance of representative democracy, the right to vote.
Brian Kemp is a racist authoritarian anti-democracy demagogue cheating toxic boil, and Georgia needs to lance that boil.
Keep fighting Stacy⌠the voter suppression was real! Georgia desperately needs you.
Yes, but, as indicated, her lawyers arenât aggressive enough for the environment theyâre in.
I think the fact that theyâre even considering going down this explosive path is pretty aggressive.
As for the counterargument:
âI would say with pretty great confidence there has probably never been an election ⌠without some irregularity, where some poll worker did not make some mistake,â Cox said in an interview. The key, she said, is proving someone erred to the point that it could change the outcome.
And I would agree with Cox. But this wasnât some irregularity with some poll worker. Even if we discard Kempâs systematic pre-election purge, thereâs more than enough evidence on the ground to show that the management of this election was designed to cause errors at every turn. I donât think the courts will accept it, especially if/when it goes to the GA Supremes, but itâs gonna fuel the voter registration drives and GOTV efforts that will put GA in the blue column in 2020.
(BTW, I once helped register a woman who expressed concern that her absentee ballot would be counted. I naively assured her that the election officials in my county were dedicated to free and fair voting. I donât think I can do that anymore.)
Yes, itâs a good thing (including for the reason you give).
As long as we allow politicians to run elections these things will continue to happen. Thatâs like allowing the home team manager to call balls and strikes. Itâs prima facie ridiculous. Elections need to be run by non-partisan professionals as happens in other countries. Ever hear of the bungled Canadian recount? The French ballot snafu? I didnât think soâŚ
"(Kempâs) campaign has called Abramsâ legal maneuvers so far a âdisgrace to democracyâ. "
Right, cuz nothing says democracy like âyouâll eat your cold white gruel and like it!!â
