It has nothing to do with superstition. What it means is that your political aspirations are dead. Any talk of the death of a mass psychosis simply because of your abhorrent behavior would be premature. From the story, I have the distinct impression Courser believes that Jesus is hiding behind him.
Also, I’m going to take a wild guess and say that Courser is in the front of the photo above – but who is the other smiling gawker? Gamrat? Courser’s wife? The alleged male prostitute? Or just another fan of Courser? I do not understand the aversion to captions and cutlines in TPM.

His problem has nothing to do with God being dead and everything to do with Christian moralists being hypocrites who can’t even uphold the moral code they insist upon forcing on to the rest of us. How guys like this will preach about gays destroying marriage, when they obviously don’t mean any of it. It’s all just a power game to them, with no bearing on their personal lives.
And that’s something I wish people would understand better: Religion is between an individual and their god. Everything else is politics. Religious moralists don’t impose their beliefs upon us because their religion dictates it. They impose their beliefs on us because they want power over us, and religion is just the excuse they use as the source of their power. But if it wasn’t religion, they’d find some other way to tell everyone else how to live their lives. Not because they believe any of it, but because they’re making a political power play.
