Discussion for article #224630
Have read one or two comments bemoaning the length of these long-form pieces but from my perspective the analysis, acuity, and clarity of the language–e.g., language that hasn’t been formed moments before being published–completely justifies their scope. Nice work!
Excellent article, and I agree, there is very little difference between the tea party agenda and the establishment agenda in terms of policies sought.
Largely its a difference in tactics and rhetoric. But the tea party also introduces a destabilizing element into the GOP. Replacing a Majority Leader with a back bencher who has no contacts with other Representatives and no experience, is a party setback, no matter how someone might try to spin it. Forcing the party into internal power struggles, like the jockeying for leadership positions in the wake of Cantor’s loss/resignation as Majority Leader, likewise increases the destabilization.
In other words, water is still wet.
Good article though.
I have an issue with an article that embraces the fiction that there are “tea party” forces and not just ultra-reactionary Republican forces.
How in the hell can that be?? Every other month on left wing web site s we hear that the TEA PARTY is dead. So who is telling the truth here.???
Did you have anything to say, or just wanted to remind the world you’re still an idiot?
Just asking… Which is it alive or dead.
Just keep fucking that chicken.
+10 pts for defenestrated.
One of my favorite words, but never get to use it in daily conversation. Unless I do it to someone, then somehow I’m the bad guy.
I agree but disagree…
The Tea Party national clout has waned considerably. One thing you are leaving out is how gerrymandering has moved the GOP agenda to the right. You have to “out-conservative” opponents in order to keep from being primaried. In a way, the GOP is a vicitm of its own success. If they had not cut these districts to be so conservative, they would not have to worry about having to court the uber-right wing that actively participates in voting.
Texas is the Tea Party’s last stand. Watch this state. Tea Party will have unlimited resources in order to keep Texas red.
IMO the tea party are obstacles that the progression of Society is making it’s way over, around and through as Humanity evolves. They’ll be here today gone tomorrow. Common sense and good judgement of the majority will keep driving us forward. I saw this, what does it mean?

Why choose? Everything is black or white in Conservative world, no grays. There must be an entire page of political cartoons depicting the Tea PArty as a Frankenstein’s Monster in the GOP lab.
