Discussion: Synagogue Shooting Suspect Praised New Zealand Mosque, Tree Of Life Attacks

It’s ridiculous and a shame that after such tragedies happened over and over again, it’s not an appropriate time for about half of the polulation to talk about gun control.

I believe this is the third story in recent months about male nurses being racist. It doesn’t seem like the type of profession that would attract this scum.

Gee, I didn’t notice that. Are they on some kind of mission to harm real nurses in the future? It’s scary to associate this with the increasing criticism of nurses “executing babies”.

It’s almost as if they share a sick, warpped, despicable world view.

In New Zealand, they refuse to use the perpetrator’s name so as to minimize him, while deterring deter others who want to make a name for themselves within what really is an international group of white power advocates. Why give these people the satisfaction of seeing their names in print? Moreover, they should be immediately and permanently held incommunicado and without access to news or anybody who could repeat whatever it is they have to say.

Pointing to these people’s screeds is also unhelpful. Point out that they are following each other, using the same playbooks and are in communication with each other in an international network, yes. But why help spread the word to people who are susceptible to such bile?

TPM should take a stand on not naming these people and use what influence it has in the journalism community to get others to do the same. Seriously.

No reporting yet on where or how the shooter got the gun.

And of course Trump came out decrying the rise in white nationalism that has been feeding these recent incidents. No? My bad. White shooters of course are all mentally ill, nothing more. Only brown skinned people of those of other religions can be terrorists.

other reports said at least4 we’re purchased lawfully.

This murder is a direct result of Trump’s advocacy for violence and xenophobia. The blood of these innocent victims is all of the illegitimate president’s tiny hands.

So now…is this little bastid a TERRORIST or just a troubled youth…I keep getting confused…

The shooter’s father teaches AP classes at a nearby high school. From the manifesto, the shooter claimed his family did not teach him about white nationalism, and the shooter faulted his family for that.

This is the 2nd mass shooter from this school district (and community), the Aurora, Co theatre shooter being the first. Both young men were in college, both came from seemingly nice families in a middle to upper middle income suburb north of San Diego. The Aurora shooter had some mental health issues. I have heard none mentioned with regard to the synagogue shooter. So far, it is unknown where or how he came about his beliefs. He lived with his family. He attended Cal State University in San Marcos, a school known for its emphasis on celebrating diversity.

I live in Poway. It is a community which prides itself on being better than average. The mayor touts a survey ( based on one data point) that Poway is the safest city in the county. The schools are frequent recipients of the blue ribbon awards. Politically, Poway leans to the right. Gun supporters. Trump supporters. Lots of libertarians who don’t like nasty government regulations. The mayor has repeatedly claimed that this shooting is “not Poway”. While the mayor has spoken against the hate, he has not yet specifically condemned “white nationalism” or anti-semitism.

Poway is a place where folks have staunch beliefs. They will probably come through this horrific experience still believing that guns don’t kill, and that President Trump has nothing to do with the increase in hate crimes.

I havent heard that. In fact, I have only heard about the one rifle. Did the report say if the shooter purchased the rifle?

Instead, the gun fetishists will start talking about how to get more guns into places of worship. Just wait. It will happen.

Silver lining – at least that kind of worldview isn’t propped up and encouraged by our leaders.

A couple things,

a) Where did the kid get the gun, an AR15 type rifle? Borrowed it from family defense arsenal?

b) Says a lot about the declining quality of american workmanship when a mass shooting had to be interrupted because gun malfunction. The NRA should be weeding out shoddy manufacturers instead of leaders spending their time backstabbing each other.

When the flames of extremism are fanned everyone gets caught in the conflagration regardless of faith, creed, or race.

Trump exhorts out of one side of his mouth and sneers out of the other.

The poster described himself as a nursing school student and praised the suspects accused of carrying out deadly attacks on mosques in New Zealand last month that killed 50 and at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue on Oct. 27, in which 11 people were killed.

But…according to conservatives he’s a big fan of Ilhan Omar.
