what they don’t like is ucky old white women who are un______able
I have never forgotten what then Sen. Biden did to Anita Hill. In essence, Biden had joined a male dominance bandwagon that was willing to replace someone of Thurgood Marshall’s stature with a surly, unenlightened nincompoop because all that mattered to them was that Thomas was black. Once they had chosen him, they were not about to let a WOMAN (egads) point out to them why their flawed choice was a poor one - on national television no less. In short, for Biden, Thomas’ maleness trumped all other consideration - even that of a highly competent and believable female from the legal community and from the African-American community telling them otherwise. So, while I like and respect Vice-President Biden for many reasons, and while I applaud Pres. Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle for embracing him and bringing out the best in him while in office, I have never felt that Joe Biden understood what he had done to black people, and black women in particular, back then. And, because he does not understand this, he cannot repent of it. He has just learned to like black people better over time and has worked to treat us better since then.
Ms Sanders know what she’s doing.
Another post I want to like 1000X. Thanks
I respect your opinion although I disagree. I guess I just don’t know who else that I feel confident can win is actually any better where it concerns black folks. Mayor Pete has got lots of explaining to do, Beto is good, but I just don’t see anyone (again, who I think would win) who is any better.
I take it that you don’t like Harris’ or Booker’s chances?
Unfortunately, no, I don’t. Harris is still my first choice in many ways, but I’m just not sure she can win. I’m not sure a woman can win, let alone a black woman. And I truly, absolutely hate that I feel this way.
Bernie never stopped running.
My heart still holds out hope for Harris and it took some getting used to, but I do respect Booker. At this point, either of them have just as good a chance, politically. Financially? - not so sanguine.
I watched an interview with Booker and Chris Matthews and I was surprised at how much more engaging, down to earth, and relaxed I found him to be. I would not be completely shocked if he found a way to win.
I had the same feeling when Ari Melber interviewed him. I finally felt like I could vote for him because of his policies and not see him as always too eager.
I like Booker, too. And Harris is my current favorite, and I also like Buttigieg, Warren and Biden.
But Booker has yet to catch fire with the base, and he’s going to have to get on it quickly to make progress.
Same for Harris.
Warren and Harris both suffer for being women, who are getting far less good press than they deserve.
All that said, I will vote for the Democratic nominee with hope in my heart, whoever that turns out to be.
Well, really, how much could any one person take of Bernie over the long haul?
Hey there,
I can understand and appreciate your disagreeing with me. But I do think my analysis has merit. It was somewhat the same with his response to the “inappropriate” touching thing. I truly don’t think he meant anything bad/salacious by it, and I think he will work very hard to do it differently going forward, because he really does respect women, and it mystifies him that even one women would say “I felt uncomfortable”. BUT - he was unconsciously exhibiting male power behavior learned and promoted as acceptable in his past, and he just doesn’t understand why petting women affectionately should not have been tolerated in the first place. Because he doesn’t understand this, he cannot really bring himself to repent of it either.
As to others who might be better for blackness and could win: It’s early times yet but I like Harris, Buttigieg, Warren and O’Rourke about equally right now. I think any one of them could create a credible nation campaign machine, drag the Current Occupant across a debate stage, make a strong case for responding to black (and other minority) concerns and recoup enough of the Obama coalition to get a win without the help of the Republican base of deplorables. I might be wrong.
Agreed on all points. I am quite positive that there will be a female (B or W) as VP running mate if one of the ladies does not get the Nom.
Joe probably has a listing of Black women beyond the people vying for POTUS…
Exactly! That’s what I came away with as well.
The Booker I saw in that interview is one I could see flying below the radar in IA only to eke out a win. I could totally see him winning on the ground with good ole fashion retail politicking and then going on to win in SC and getting some steam from there. His path is narrow as hell, but I can see it. I can also see Harris winning in IA and then running away with the whole thing from SC on, especially on Super Tuesday. But she’s got a couple of different paths to victory.
Joe would call up Kamala Harris or Stacey Abrams in heatbeat if he won the nomination… though his first choice would be Michelle Obama.
Hasn’t he already been in touch with Stacey Abrams?
That was the scuttlebutt on the street…
Plucky, you may have seen a Booker 2016 Dem Convention speech in which Booker started out and the catcalls from the Bernie-ites just about drowned Booker out.
But Booker kept at it…and the way he did it was by smiling confidently (almost cheerfully and buoyantly) and winning the audience with his power. By the time he finished, the Bernie catcalls had subsided.
When a person goes up against people who disagree and gives 'em a smile instead…
That was the closest I ever felt that we might have a chance against the (cheating) Trump (I knew all along that it was Donnie Moscow when I saw the GOP-Ukraine change). I mistakenly believed that the Bernie debacle could have been overlooked
