My understanding is that all of the weapons used in this slaughter of innocents were legally purchased. Thank-you, NRA.
And to those who want to proclaim about “good guys with a gun”, let’s look at that. First, do you really want a society where people show up armed to an event as innocuous as the company holiday party? Really? But even if some armed people were there, the assailants would have the advantage of preparation and surprise. Even a well-armed “good guy”'s first reaction to someone coming in the room shooting would be shock and disorientation. But, suppose, after a few seconds, they collected themselves and returned fire, would that have saved lives or have killed as many or more in the cross-fire? No way to know. It actually seems, in a crowded environment like that, that a better self defense tactic would be for someone behind one of the shooters to sneak up behind them and grab them and wrestle the gun away. That worked in the train in France this summer without loss of life, where a gun battle would almost certainly have been deadly.
So bottom line, “good guys with guns” might have saved a few lives or might have gotten even more killed. No way to know.
“Farook’s father continued telling The Daily News that he had not spoken to his estranged son in some time, adding, “He was very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.””
When are you people going to wake up and realize the real problem is RELIGION.
The other problem with the NRA claim in your scenario is that no except the 2 shooters knew how many “bad guys” there were. Let’s say you’re armed and drew your gun to start defending the room, and then a fourth person draws - is that person an accomplice or another defender? You don’'t have much time to decide, especially since another good guy decided you were an accomplice as soon as you drew.
Has Trump made any statements yet on taking out the 6 month old daughter and father, plus the other members of the Farook and Malik family?
I don’t blame the NRA for making this “good guy with a gun” argument. If I were in the business of selling cigarettes, I would argue that the solution to all problems is to buy more cigarettes. I do blame the citizens and politicians who buy into this moronic argument.
Statistics show a person with a gun is 1000 times more likely to kill themselves, or a family member by accident with it then a bad guy. Guns don’t make the world safer, quite the opposite.
I’m blame mental issues more than religion. I don’t think religion has any power. I think some folks with mental issues call their issues religion.
That’s a very good point. We know that even well-trained, highly coordinated military units wearing uniforms experience friendly fire casualties. Just imagine a room full of untrained civilians.
The anti muslim posters are out there claiming it is a terrorist act by Muslims.
The idea of a married couple with a 6 month old baby carrying out such an act is mind-boggling, and, I believe, quite unprecedented in the sad and horrifying annals of such crimes.
Muslims with mental issues and access to guns, in my opinion. Just like christians, buddhist, atheist, etc., with mental issue and access to guns tend to kill folks too.
The Second Amendment protects the right of conservatives to violate the Sixth Commandment.
They media can claim workplace violence all they want, but with those names, the echo chamber will paint these two as card carrying ISIS members, then excoriate the POTUS and Dems for avoiding the term “radical Islamists.”
The foreign press have a 3rd suspect in custody…but the US media are ignoring this. We have Congress doing NOTHING for years on the gun issue…Press is ignoring that…Sandy Hook being ignored by Congress is an abomination. Cowards in congress owned by the nra must be stopped.
Actor James Morrison had this on his Twitter feed: “If you’re running for office and all you have to offer the victims of mass shootings and terrorism are prayers, you’re not fit to serve.”.
The repub candidates for Pres are offering nothing and Morrison is correct… It is time to get them off their duffs or out on their ears! Call congress out…1.866.220.0044 or 1.866.338.1015
The attackers invaded the Inland Regional Center
Invaded?
Nice incendiary language use AP.
Baccari described Farook as reserved and said he showed no signs of unusual behavior. Earlier this year he traveled to Saudi Arabia and returned with a wife, later growing a beard, Baccari said.
The couple dropped off their 6-month-old daughter with relatives Wednesday morning, saying they had a doctor’s appointment
I’ll wait for more details and to hear from the authorities, but this does not look good.
Sorry I am an atheist as well and religion is very much the problem and a significant enabling factor in this kind of shit.
People that can be convinced of absurdities can be convinced to commit attrocities.
And I read he had just returned from Saudi Arabia.
This has religious fanaticism written all over it.
