The de facto step-son of a Congress-creature is much more likely to receive a desk appearance than a randomly selected age-and-sex matched kid from the projects. If the Congress-creature vouches for the kid, he’s almost certainly a good risk.
I’m with you, Jake. The kid doesn’t need to be in jail (but probably does need to be in rehab…) As long as he appears for his arraignment, it’s no harm and no foul. Frankly, that’s how the system ought to work for an age-and-sex matched kid from the projects, too – but it doesn’t. Our bail system is really, really, effed-up.
One of many barriers to recovery is that even when “successful,” people recovering from addiction will too often go right back into the same failing community, broken family, no job, or other dysfunction as where they began using in the first place. Congressional elections should be about the health of the economy and the community, and the Congressman certainly is no leader of anything worthy along those dimensions.
No idea.
But Congresscritters generally have pretty busy schedules, and they do like to talk about the important stuff they do for their constituents, particularly to their faces.
As such, I rate it “More likely than not” until we get the A/V footage and transcripts of the visit.
You would be wrong. What is reported indicates the Congressman acted like a father. The real abuse of power in this country is never, ever solving a problem. We simply monetize every problem, keep it going as long as possible by convincing Democrats of one postion and Republicans of another. . We have a giant drug problem because instead of solving the problem our politicians converted it into a “war” that destroys the lives of all concerned, but keeps the issue alive for the rubes and makes money for people like Jeff Sessions the heavy investor in private prisons.
So we need to fix one and only one problem? At a time, or ever? Horseshit.
The War on Drugs was mostly a racist and statist phenomenon, and it certainly needs and has needed to be ended and replaced as you suggest. But your implicit denial of the seriousness of another cancer on constitutional government is just garbage.
And why the fuck do you use the subjunctive? Not I would be “wrong” in calling BS. Either I am wrong, or I am not. I am not, Ronnie One-Note. You were, are, and shall remain so forever if you don’t learn to accept that other people’s concerns than yours matter.
