Discussion: Sweden Identifies Truck Attack Suspect As Uzbek Native, 39

AP laundered Trumpp’s statements:
In February, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that Sweden could be the next European country to suffer the kind of extremist attacks that have devastated France, Belgium and Germany.

Trump falsely claimed that refugees had just done something awful in Sweden. He didn’t foresee a problem; he fabricated one.

Saw that AP fabrication also.
Trump actually said, “look at what happened last night in Sweden,” to which the Swedish PM replied “What has he been smoking?”

(Trump had just seen a fake Fox story about immigrant rape in Sweden)

Well he’s got material here. Granted Uzbekistan is not generating refugees and Sweden should be the last place on earth a terrorist would want to do business but it happened and it can be spun as vindicating Trump. If you try to Trumpitize this thing you’ll be doing exactly what the dead man at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea wanted you to do. His goal was to use the weakness of Western thinking and its societal norms as a weapon against itself. Terrorism isn’t the tool. It’s the catalyst. Look how quickly some asshole in Sweden from a shit hole like Uzbekistan was able to stoke divisive sentiments on the other side of the world. That’s the plan. We are all being played by a dead man.

We have a lot of willing accomplices in the U.S.

I’m sure Mr. Trump and his army of frightened pants-wetters will use this as an example of how dangerous those brown people are. Let me remind them that in NYC, a white guy walked up to a black man, a total stranger to him, and murdered him with a sword – and he was proud of doing it. You can never totally protect yourself from people who are off their nut.

Sweden will probably, yet again, step up their security measures, which are already extensive. Of course in Sweden this is not done in a clandestine manner, that’ll require a Snowden to let the public know what has been implemented.

I am sure that Trump will find a way to demagogue this development. It’s what he does.

Compared to the US, the Swede’s have made serious attempts to regularize immigration. That said, this guy had his residence permit application rejected, had been told to leave the country by December and a warrant was out for his arrest. He had worked in construction off the tax rolls, had some sort of certification for asphalt work, and was known to be an expert in explosives. Sweden has had something like 85,000 individuals under order to depart the country who have instead melted into the population. Under the table payments in the construction branch are a particular problem in high-tax countries. It is not a situation with easy policy answers.
