“someone painted a Nazi symbol”

Some one. One person. One person who knew that s/he had to hide.

I agree with opposing fascists and Nazis and white supremacists consistently, but this kind of story gives undue power to the hateful and stupid.

"a red swastika was painted Sunday night "

I wonder at times if the people who do these things truly understand their motivations. Have they really thought through why they hate something? Or is this an outlet for things deeper and beyond that? Acting out when they really cannot tolerate themselves.

It baffles me that nobody at Duke University realized that, in the Age of Trump, putting up a mural honoring Jews was likely to incite some hate crimes.

They should have put the cameras up before beginning the mural, secretly. Fucking idiots.

In related news: the president of Duke University has placed an enormous diamond on display in the student commons. There are no security measures in place, because nobody has tried to steal it yet. Reached for comment, the president said, “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”

Gee, I just wonder who the graffiti artist voted for in 2016.

Jill Stein?

You heard about the guy yelling “Heil Hitler! Heil trump!” in a theatre in Baltimore. No arrest, they said he was drunk, and they hustled him out. But people thought there would be shooting after he yelled that.

It’s worth explaining the Duke East Campus Bridge to those who don’t know. The East Campus bridge essentially goes under a railroad and a street and connects Duke’s west and east campuses.

The underpass has been painted over for decades. At first it was just graffiti and street art, often interesting and chaotic, but more recently it’s been a sort of mobile billboard/art space. Rules for painting the bridge are even part of the Duke Code of Student Conduct. A group will paint it for a specific purpose and it will get left alone for a few weeks. Then, a few weeks later, it gains repainted by another group. It’s traditionally been respected as a site for street art and political speech.

This is not the first time it’s been vandalized, but I think the vandalism has been more frequent in the Trump era, and more consistently racist. Just a couple of months ago, a Latinex Heritage mural was defaced.

People have got to stop giving Mike Pence theater tickets.

“Forget it, Jake. It’s Duke.”

another example of why I told my kid we’d pay for him to go to any good school he got int - except Duke

What a brave thing to do, vandalizing a mural. Such tough guys.

Like all bullies, Nazis are cowards.

And he claimed to not be right wing and somehow him doing that was supposed to express his dislike and frustration over folks that are.

I hope they can find the guy and try and figured out what motivated him. And I know I should probably use genderless pronouns, but I’m like 99.9999% sure this was some dumb ass white guy.

He’s still resentful a member of the Hamilton cast called him out from the stage. This is Mommie’s Dearest acting out in the worst way.

Says he acted out of disgust with moron.

Anthony Derlunas, 58, was removed from the theater shortly after the outburst began, the Hippodrome Theatre said in a statement.

“I’m so embarrassed and ashamed and disgusted with myself,” Derlunas told WBAL-TV 11 in a tearful apology, while concealing his face from the news cameras out of fear.
