My kid is about a block away at the National High School Debate tournament (as are about thousand other kids). They’re all on lock-down in their hotels. Our country is insane.
You’re such a cynic, there’s also a good chance of it being a white dude in his 20’s or 30’s.
Shouldn’t all of them be out on the streets with their own AR-15s, stopping the bad guy with a gun?
They’re not very much use to us hiding in the hotels.
On the serious side, sorry that your kid is experiencing this, hope that everything is okay with him/her.
Is the gun ok?
I tried to talk my wife into being a prepper but “blah blah blah statistics blah blah blah studies” and now she’s there with one of our daughters a mere block from being able to go charging in and open a giant can of whupass and maybe go down in a hail of bullets and glory, but no. She’s just going to be “safe.”

There’s a company that does prefabricated bunkers, you can have that installed before she gets back from the trip.
I’m so glad to hear that this did not end in tragedy involving further senseless loss of life. As a society, we gotta do better when it comes to the proliferation of guns.
My house was built in 1965 and has a fallout shelter in the basement, so I’m already 85% there. Just need me some guns, dehydrated food, and something that will turn my piss into drinking water.
Get the guns and ammo first. With those, you can obtain the rest from people who didn’t plan ahead.
Body armor was another tell.

Statistically, it’s unlikely that suspect is anything other than a white male regardless of whether he was killed versus taken into custody.
It’ll be interesting to see if his prosecution will be more vigorous than usual given that he targeted a federal building rather than a place of worship for people of color or Jews, or place frequented by LGTB people or women, etc.
The point being that “taken into custody” automatically means the shooter is white.
“killed” can mean that he was either white or black or other minority.
I got that, @castortroy, was just being a bit heavy handed about seeing your point and raising it to make the same point.

Nah, the cops appear to have shot his malignant ass pretty good. Race might make a difference in other contexts, but there are no passes granted for shooting up a heavily-guarded federal courthouse.
Turns out my wife actually saw the shooting. Her and another judge were walking to the debate - as were a bunch of debate kids (my daughter was already in her first round) - when the shooting started. Everyone of course ran. Police showed up very quickly. And then she had to go judge two debates. The kids presumeably had to go and debate after fleeing for their lives. Just so fucked up. Everyone still on lock down as of 12:10.
