They are on the verge of passing an amendment to stand your ground.
The legislation shifts the burden of proof in a pre-trial hearing from defendants to prosecutors, requiring state attorneys to prove “by clear and convincing evidence” why a defendant could not claim “stand your ground” in self-defense cases.
Shorter version: I shoot you and claim stand your ground and the prosecutor has to provide a reason why I wasn’t allowed to shoot your ass

My youngest daughter and I stayed in Olathe when, some years ago, I helped her move from Mizzou back to Tucson after grad school. We ate dinner at the Olathe Golden Corral and got sick the next day. I thought that perhaps this wasn’t indicative of the whole town. I’m now rethinking this opinion.
This story, literally, hits close to home for me. The distance from my driveway to the entrance of the perpetrator’s street is 1100 feet. The bar where the shootings took place is probably a mile, at the most, from my home. It’s a family type of place and I’ve been there any number of times to have a beer or two and watch whatever sporting event was on the tube. Hell, if the food was better, I might go there more. This doesn’t happen in our sleepy little suburb. The worst that I usually have to endure is dickhead high schoolers driving too fast down my street. My kids (3 boys) have probably walked by this butthole’s house a 1000 times on their way to the neighborhood park.
I guess I should give this forum a little more credit because, full disclosure, I truly expected the comments about Right Wing, Fascist, Goose Stepping Hayseeds in Kansas setting the example for Trump’s America. I can accept calling this guy a Kansas Yahoo, because, yes, he’s in Kansas and yahoo is much too kind of an adjective for him. Please understand that this animal is not representative of my neighbors or community. We have just as many assholes as anyplace else and, yes, the redness of my state drives me up a damn wall. But honestly, this guy and his actions are not who we are. I’d wager to say that there are millions of people that feel the same way about their communities when something like this happens.
Lastly, and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given their penchant for invisibility, along with making themselves completely inaccessible, our 3rd District Congressional Representative Kevin Yoder (he of skinny dipping in the Dead Sea as Freshman Congressman), Senator Jerry Moran, and Senator Pat Roberts have issued zero statements condemning this racially charged incident. Zero. Fucking. Statements.
I have a lot of friends from India in KC. Every one is very well educated, and every one is filling a gap where the volume of American-born workers cannot be found. None of these people are Muslim. If these folks are forced out by having their green-cards removed, that will cause a serious labor problem for companies like Sprint and Garmin, and to all of their customers who depend on their products and services everyday.
T rump has no idea what “winning” looks like. To him and his supporters, ignorance is bliss. Their goal is to force ignorance on everyone by proliferating fake news through the vacuums of reality in Breitbart and Fox. Winning is achieving the lowest common denominator in human intelligence. This is reflected in their attacks on our public education system, and their love of private and charter schools. Dumb America down.
All those conservatives on Facebook and Twitter who use the word “deplorable” as if it’s a badge of honor, it’s not. A man shot three other men because he thought they were Muslim. He didn’t even bother to find out. He shot them because they were brown and he was pretty sure they were Muslim. This is deplorable.
And let’s be clear on this: being Muslim is not a death sentence. It is not illegal to be Muslim. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING MUSLIM. The Constitution explicitly states that people can be any religion they want to be. EVEN RELIGIONS YOU DON’T LIKE. Americans understand that. Unamericans don’t.
In the United States today any place that serves alcohol and is frequented by predominately working class white men is not a “family type” place. Loose gun laws, rampant xenophobia, the White House stoking feelings of violation and aggrievement, all contributing to lots of shootings and violence. There are no family places anymore. We’re overrun with members of the Trump militia, and they’re out for blood. The victims in this incident could just as well have been climbing out of a car with a Hillary bumper sticker on the back and suffered the same fate.
We understand. Crazy people with access to guns whipped into a frenzy by the conservative entertainment complex.
It of course won’t get the exposure. Only 2 brown guys, probably not enough to make the nightly news
David Wheeler said it best when he was interviewed after Sandy Hook. It can happen anywhere- I live in Orlando and went through Pulse

I mean find a mirror in your house and look in it and look in your eyes and say ‘this will never happen to me, this will never happen in my school, this will never happen in my community,’ and see if you actually believe that. And if there’s a shadow, the slightest shadow of doubt in what you’ve said? Think about what you can do to change that,” Wheeler said. “It is going to happen again. It’s going to happen again. Every time, it’s somebody else’s school, it’s somebody else’s community, it’s somebody else’s town. Until one day, you wake up and it’s not.”
This is what worries me about Trump’s America. When he and his followers vilify ‘illegals’, muslims and others, it is code word for anyone who does not look like them. This is what makes me angry at my fellow indian-Americans who support Trump. Trump’s basket of deplorables hate anyone who does not look like them. Just because you support Trump does not mean you will not be targetted.
Trump confessed into a live mic he committed sexual assault against women by grabbing their genitals and also forcing himself upon them for kissing. Proudly bragged about grabbing women’s genitals. Followed by bragging he was able to do it and essentially immune from any consequences for it by virtue of his celebrity. Of all his missteps, lies, vulgarities and failings I still can’t wrap my mind around the idea a person would support and vote for him after such a revelation. Hence I avoid trump fans like the plague. Relatives, co-workers, friends, anyone I discover in passing voted for him I actively shun. Casting a vote for him makes you part and parcel with a criminal sexual deviant.
I hate to say this, and please don’t take offense, but “We’re overrun with members of the Trump militia, and they’re out for blood,” are the words of a self-identifying victim. We are not the victims. We are not the ones running around shooting people for being different. We are not the defeated who must literally kill other people to compensate for their own failures. We are much better than those people. T rump gained his power by appealing to victims by promising vengeance against those who are vulnerable and easy targets. We are NOT victims. We will win this war for the future of America, a future where everyone is welcome. That is what America is, and always has been.
