Discussion: Susan Rice: ‘Absolutely False’ That Unmasking US Persons Was ‘Political’

Another thought: if Susan Rice is going to be called as a witness, she should absolutely weaponize her evidence. Name names, flip the whole story back on Trump, question the good faith of Nunes. Make the GOP rue the day.

That she felt a need to make this statement is an insult to President Obama and all Democrats. It is also evidence that Trump’s diversion is gaining traction within the media.

Which is why we will need to develop ways to counter this shit.

I know there are evil billionaires in America who play politics like they are games. But there are more of us. And we’re smarter overall.

So we learn how to deal with this.

I share your distrust of the MSM, particularly the NYT. The NYT kicked off the 2016 election cycle by running fiction drawn from Clinton Cash that helped drive the right-wing Clinton e-mail narrative that was so disruptive throughout her campaign. It was the NYT that launched the Whitewater hoax early in Bill Clinton’s presidency. The NYT has done much in paving the way for a President Trump. Moreover, Chris Matthews arguably did more harm to Al Gore’s presidential candidacy with his endless regurgitation of right-wing talking points and blathering George W. Bush worship than anyone at Fox. So, while the MSM is currently doing a better job in covering Trump, I suspect it’s significantly motivated by frustration at attacks Trump has launched at its collective credibility and fear of the general havoc Trump has created. In the absence of Trump, I fear the press would cover a President Pence much like it did Bush II–irresponsibly.

Actually, it started with Ronald Reagan. Limbaugh wouldn’t have been able to exist on the radio without the elimination of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987.

Ok. I think everything started with Ronald Reagan so I won’t dispute that at all.

The same thing Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, John Kerry, Jerry Brown, etc., have in common, They are on the other team.

Ever notice they don’t pick on Herman Cain or Ben Carson? That’s because they are on the same team.

Crying “race” all the fucking time when it does not apply is one of the reasons Hillary lost.

Republicans are for the wealthy, Democrats are for the middle class and poor, not “minorities”. There are wealthy blacks, and there are poor whites. When we use divisive rhetoric like yours, you pit poor and middle class whites against blacks and vice versa. That’s how you lose a huge share of white working class votes. And the wealthy, including the black wealthy, laugh all the way to the bank, and in this past election, to the voting booth.

Susan Rice always impressed me as a badass. Loved her for it.

In a sane world what you say makes sense. But alt-right forums and Fox & Friends are basically what the Republican party is now. Any doubts on that died when Trump became the Republican nominee.

Bad idea, THAT would be leaking. What she did was request unmasking, which is not leaking. I don’t think it would be wise for her to break the law while testifying, and naming names would definitely do that. That’s why Comey repeatedly said he had no comment when asked about specific people. Unmasking for intel and investigative purposes is necessary, releasing names publicly is a totally different thing. Even Trump’s people are entitled to that. What you do is wait for the investigation to be completed, and if there are indictments, THAT is when names get released. And I am guessing there will be several.

It’s a mixed bag. Newspapers are caught between driving subscribership and public responsibility. They carry the ball sometimes and stumble at others. We’ll never be totally satisfied.

But all the respectable news outlets have, I think, been exposing Trump in ways I never thought I’d see since the inauguration. For that I am grateful and it lessens the complaints I have regarding their primary and general election coverage – which probably differ from yours in some respects, though I’m sure we agree 100% percent that the press gave Trump a free ride for too long and waaaay too much coverage, and they bear a great deal of responsibility for his election.

I have definitely seen this movie before…It was the same assholes bringing attention to Susan Rice over Benghazi-gate-a-palooza and here they are again, up to their old bullshit…Different day, same exact playbook.

These are the same racist assholes that go to the same well over and over again, while the media goes along with it like fools led to the slaughter. Once the story has been repeated X number of times, they’re forced to take back a portion of what they’ve reported to correct the record or whatever…and by then, its too late…and that’s no accident either. The MSM are fucking enablers and it hasn’t changed one iota.

I saw 5-10 minutes of Morning Choke before taking out the dog this a.m., and saw the same phony bullshit by the ever pretentious Mr. and Mrs. Coffee Katsch and Smugfest pull the same shit they did back a few years ago pertaining to Susan Rice. I know a well-planned hit-job when I see one…In days past, this is where the RNC would send their operatives a memo, who in turn would use their lackeys in the press and the GOP pundit class, and everyone involved plays along, like they read it in the news like everyone else…yet the message and wording is identical from one media outlet to the next. Apparently all it took was for Eli Lake to get the ball rolling. Personally, I never cared for the guy’s writing. This is the kind of writing I would expect from an elderly Seymour Hersh, which btw you never hear from anymore. Wonder why he’s not all over this. Muckraking, where about half of what he writes may actually be true, and the other half is pure conjecture, but sold as truth… is his kind of reporting, along those same lines, as well. This is just irresponsible reporting serving only one purpose…to distract the public from the central focus of what’s going on in the investigation of the Apprentice President and the many links to his Russian benefactors.

Politifact goes through the same thing. Both the right and left accuse them of bias the other way, when in reality them and factcheck are the two best fact checkers out there.

And frankly, the NY Times is an excellent newspaper, and for anyone to say otherwise is pretty silly.

They are desperate to change the subject. They will get increasingly unhinged as more evidence comes out.

The New Yorker piece is eye popping. They actually didn’t need Russia.

It’s no different (though in this incarnation a great deal worse) from the way the Neocons worked their way into the public psyche, using PR firms to get them on the tube and recognized as talking heads, turning American minds in their direction.

But now with the manipulation of social media and targeted completely bogus fake news, we are at the threshhold of something that is well nigh uncontrollable.

It’s horrifying. And we seem to be defenseless as it happens again and again. It’s a wicked world.

Rice’s testimony can be in private if needs be. The idea that we should let the process play out and hope for the best is, with all due respect, unrealistic. We live in the United States, not Sweden. Democracy isn’t functioning here. We should strategize accordingly.

Andrea badgered Hillary relentlessly on the campaign trail about her health, reinforcing Trump’s slander about Clinton’s weakness and lack of stamina. Andrea could also be counted on to consistently express grave concern about Hillary’s emails at least once a day, and I think she even picked up the trolling about the Clinton Foundation.

It was pretty obvious that if she was not carrying water for Trump, she was making a point of ignoring Hillary’s campaign points and reinforcing Trump’s lies.

While we might like that very much (and we would…), the “method” here is to smear the person up to the point where the bluff will be called–They get maximum effect wth their base, while limiting their legal exposure.

I hate these guys.
