He bought the gun legally, inspite of his mental illness, history of hostility and criminal record. Yet, not a single commenter in he story mentioned the gun epidemic as a contributing factor. There is no reason to seek a ‘motive’; whatever he thought he was accomplishing is irrelevant and insulting. Stopping the regular occurrence of gun violence by the insane, the ideologue, the frustrated, the jealous, the inadequate, the criminals among us, requires eliminating easy access to firearms, period. No matter what else we do these people will always be part of human society; putting guns in their hands only makes them more able to inflict their malevolence on the innocent.

Dear Louisiana and Alabama state governments: Go for that extra funding for mental health services right there in your own states which is exactly what your majority Republican politicians advocate. Don’t look to the federal government for handouts on this because you advocate small government close to the people, with no additional state revenue increases to fund mental health services. You’re caught in your own web of political ideology run amok.
Do I agree with this? Of course not. I’m a Democrat.
And armed! Remember, conservatives defend his right to have a fully automatic gun.
The thing about guns, though, is the bad guy always shoots first.
