Discussion: Supreme Court Ends Secret 'John Doe' Probe That Long Plagued Scott Walker

Discussion for article #238472

Will conservatives denounce these “tyrants in black robes?”

The Republican Wisconsin Supreme Court, completely in sync with Walker and the Fitzgeralds, ended the probe of their guy, who they’d really like to see in the White House.
Does that about sum it up?

The court was set up by Walker, why wouldn’t they rule for him. He took out Shirley Abramson through a vote that most people would not have understood unless they followed his deceptiveness. He is smart like a fox and sociopathic.

Anybody who didn’t see this coming months ago was deluding themselves. Walker has the lickspittle Koch-fueled Court he needed, so now it’s clear sailing to the Presidential nomination. Don’t underestimate this snake.

Well, that can’t be. Walker was going to be indicted any minute now.

I feel sorta sorry for all the true believers over at DK who’ve been assuring us for many, many months that Christie and Walker would soon be wearing prison orange, any day now. Not that they don’t deserve to, but that’s not the way things work, and never has been.

I’m more curious whether the sainted Russ Feingold, not to mention Tammy Baldwin, will ever speak up on behalf of their Democratic constituents getting screwed by Walker and his minions. So far, I haven’t heard fuckall from either one, but I guess the filet is really good in D.C.

I am not giving up hope on Christie yet. Remember his friend Wildstein has made a deal with prosecutors so we still could see some revelations. Walker is becoming the Teflon Governor

And he would be without a bought and paid for supreme court. Five of the criminals on this court had their seats purchased for them by the very same people being investigated by a bi-partisan group of district attorneys.

Don’t give up hope on Walker either. SCOTUS has ruled that judges MUST recuse themselves when asked to rule on a case involving major campaign contributors. That’s exactly what happened here. So SCOTUS should, and hopefully will, intervene.

The cynic in me suspects it will be the case where Kennedy will find merit in the dire warnings of the dissent in Caperton v. Massey Energy.

Edumacashun (I’m sorry, “education”)

is the only way to get around Walker.

I have listened to analysts discuss Citizens United and opine that a Tsunami of money cannot overturn an informed and concerned electorate.

That may well be true, and if that is the case, Scott Walker is “Exhibit A”

ANYONE favouring him is a Bagger or simply not up to speed on exercising one’s right to vote (read: Ignorant).

The fix is in. That’s what happens when you own the courts.

Perfect opportunity for a reporter to make his or her chops by investigating and uncovering the bubbling pool of corruption under Walker’s feet. Walker may be protected by Koch money, but there have to be people who will spill their guts.

What? You’re telling me that judges whose campaigns were largely financed by the Wisconsin Club for Growth and other conservative organizations didn’t want the Wisconsin Club for Growth and other conservative organizations to be investigated for campaign finance violations ? I’m shocked I tell ya, shocked!

Are you actually paying attention? Feingold and Baldwin have been speaking up constantly, of course in the “Midwestern nice” way that speaks to their constituents and may not translate well to people that can only hear shouts and screams. Ron Kind, rumored to be running for Gov in 2018, is leading the attack on Walker and has been quite aggressive.

I’d suggest you focus your outrage on where it belongs and not drag down Baldwin or Feingold for not meeting whatever personal standards you hold them to. One reason Walker shouldn’t be underestimated, as you point out, is that he often gets away with his malfeasance here in Wisconsin because liberals/democrats are too busy attacking each other or diverting attention away from the real crimes by instead focusing their disdain on “true believers over at DK” or “the sainted Russ Feingold.” Unless your intent is to assist Walker with some b-grade rat-f**cking, I’d recommend you focus on the issues and stay disciplined. In-fighting and cynicism is Walker’s best friend. Don’t let him divide and conquer you.

Meh, whatever. As if anything substantive was going to come from it anyway. Now he lives to see another political day, and it gets him that much closer to the nomination, but of course he still won’t win. And it will be that much more delicious to see this vicious SOB’s defeat.

He has done everything in his power to destroy my home state and I can’t wait to watch him lose.

Here’s the key part of the ruling: "…permanently destroy all copies of information and other materials obtained through the investigation.”

Even if this is repealed on grounds of obvious conflict of interest among the judges, any damning evidence will have been destroyed by the time this plays out. The shredders are running at full blast as I type this.

It’d be neat to treat Wisconsin as a cautionary tale of how a well-organized Republican machine can completely destroy checks and balances in the face of a distracted populace, a complacent media, and a divided liberal base, but unfortunately I now live with this day in and day out and can only hold out hope that my state isn’t completely burned to the ground by the time the tide inevitably turns.
