The end is near, GOP’ers…
Good to see that Alito didn’t give the state GOP what they clearly hoped he’d give them.
Some good news for once! Hmmm…what do we do now? I’m not sure how to react to it anymore. Do we throw a party? Put on funny hats? Masturbate? What?
Wow – the gerrymandering must be pretty blatant if it was too much for even Alito to stomach.
WTF? Slingin’ Sammy Alito following precedent when he could have overturned it and benefitted his GOP masters?
I don’t know how to interpret this.
Slingin’ Sammy Alito wasn’t ruling on the merits at all.
My cognitive dissonance is being majorly triggered here. Alito actually did the honorable thing and put our country’s constitutional integrity before party loyalty?
It may very well be a signal that the gerrymandering issue is going to be left to the states, so that the GOP, which controls most state governments, can have their way with it. If they do, however, I strongly suggest we insist that blue states do likewise. What’s significant here is that PA is a swing state, so the GOP really lost something here. They can gerrymander KS and WY all they want for all I care, but PA and OH and maybe FL…that’s game, set, match…especially if we can pick up more momentum with the movement to restore voting rights to people who have served their time, etc.
NO QUARTER.
It’s all good to celebrate once in a while. Just don’t pull a David Carradine.
It sounds like Alito got the law right. Good for him.
Now is the speaker of the Pennsylvania house going to be held in contempt?
Maybe throw on a little INXS while watching Mrs. Doubtfire for old time’s sake?
That outside of the halls of congress and the white house - today’s hyperpolticized GOP threatens democratic principals to such a great degree that even partisan conservative judges recognize a bridge gone too far.
You’re giving Alito unwarranted credit. The PA case was decided solely on the state constitution. Alito would have to construct a federal issue where none was raised in the case.
That was my take as well. The GOP was hoping for a helping hand from Alito where none was possible.
Good news for PA, bad news for the 1000 year Gooper Reich.
Where’s @mattinpa ?
This is what Pennsylvania’s congressional districts would look like if drawn competitively:
Slip sliding away…You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away
Gerrymandering matters everywhere, I would think, including in KS and WY because that could still potentially deprive Democrats a seat or two, which could make all the difference in determining the majority in the House.
