Rauner’s campaign publicly argued that McKinney should not have written the story as the paper had a conflict of interest because it is married to a Republican corporation.

Well I wish you the best of luck with that endeavor reporters, but your profession is sadly in total corporate control, and we no longer have anything close to a “free press”. The biggest lie out there, is that we have a liberally biased press, when the truth is all of our press is now controlled by a small handful of right wing corporations. This is just another step in our march towards total fascism.
Question is…did this even hurt Rauner’s campaign? Hopefully his reporting will not be for naught.
Anyone who read the entirety of Dave McKinney’s resignation letter knows the extent that he and his wife went through to create a buffer between their professional roles.
Anything less than complete separation-- and there might be cause for Rauner to be concerned.
But there appeared to be satisfactory safeguards in place.
Rauner intimidated the Sun-Times-- or Sun-Times ownership conspired with Rauner.

Yes and the Tea Party is a fascist party. I’ve said that from its inception.
Why bother? The owner will just lie to you in his “assurance”.
The reporters need to find a new rich guy and start a new paper. Quit en masse and start fresh.
Do ya think Rauner having money invested in the Sun-Times at one time had something to do with it?
The primary owner of the Sun-Times, Mike Ferro, is a mobster scion, who inherited his money (but not his brains) from P. T. Ferro, of construction fame. He is a spoiled brat who surrounds himself with mini-skirted blonds and loves to play emperor - thumbs up, thumbs down.
