In Texas, there is a woman serving 8 years for voting after mistakenly thinking that it was okay to do so after serving her time for another matter. Perhaps all involved should get 8 years for each trashed ballot.
Cries of voter fraud are specifically designed to cover up election fraud. The media frequently uses the terms interchangeably, contributing to the confusion.
The biggest difference is that election fraud is real.
It will be interesting to see how many people were involved in this. They were apparently going to people’s houses (mostly elderly blacks) and tricking them into handing over their ballots. They then either filled them out for the Republican or discarded them. NC has a Dem AG so it will be hard for the Repugs to cover this up and I hope the whole lot ends up in jail, including Harris if he was involved in any way or knew about it and did nothing. It is amazing to think that they could get away with this, given the scale of it.
Oh he knew about it, alright. You can count on it.

BAGHDAD (The Borowitz Report)—The government of Iraq announced on Tuesday that it would seek to build an international coalition to establish democracy in the state of North Carolina.
Speaking to reporters in Baghdad, the Iraqi President, Barham Salih, said that Iraq had reached out to regional powers including Canada and Mexico to launch a military invasion of North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District to “protect the North Carolinians’ right to self-determination.”
The crucial thing is that the election hasn’t been certified. Because if it were, you know a republican wouldn’t resign until all the appeals had been exhausted.
As to the Democratic AG… we can hope the legislature doesn’t immediately try to pass a bill to strip the AG Office of any power to enforce or prosecute election law, until its held again by the correct party. Unless they can’t override the veto.
What’s really interesting is that even with all this direct interference, Harris could only maintain a 900-something lead. That tells me that had the balloting been fair and legal, he would have been beaten like a rented red-headed gong.
It is the proving that we need.
It seems likely that there is enough evidence for a prosecutor to charge Harris, but I don’t know if there will be a prosecutor involved who has the will to do it. Right now, it appears that it is just the state elections officials that are investigating, and that law enforcement is standing back until the elections officials complete their work and make a referral to law enforcement.
The Charlotte Observer reported that Dowless has two felony convictions, for fraud and perjury, but what I found most interesting in the article was this:
In the 2016 congressional primary, Dowless worked for Todd Johnson. Johnson got 221 absentee votes to 4 for Harris and 1 for Pittenger. In the district as a whole, Johnson finished third.
Those numbers suggest why Harris hired Dowless, but they also should have given reason to suspect that Dowless wasn’t conducting an honest get-out-the-vote effort.
Sure. But their emails and texts will out them, because they likely operated without much (any?) fear of being caught/held to account.
Also, those 2016 numbers are interesting. This is apparently not Dowless’s first rodeo.

The NCGOP is, as usual, covering itself with glory in this affair. This is from North Carolina Policy Watch:
Republican Party executive director Dallas Woodhouse has blasted the move to investigate as unnecessary because, he says, allegations of fraud aren’t widespread enough to make a difference in the election. Meanwhile, GOP chairman Robin Hayes recently sent out a fundraiser in which he stated that “The NCGOP is coordinating efforts with all our partners and will move heaven and earth to stop the democrats’ (sic) morally corrupt attempt to steal this election.”
Robin Hayes is a former member of Congress. Who you would think would care more about the integrity of a congressional election than about whittling the Democrats’ majority down from 236 to 235, but apparently not in this universe.
I love that “morally corrupt” tag, too. People living in glass houses in which a convicted felon and fraudster is running the absentee ballot operations of one of their congressional candidates should probably not throw stones.
I appreciate the sentiment. However, I think that the guy (either one) in your photo would just make the problem worse, or not see any problem in the first place.
