Discussion: Subglacial Volcano Begins To Erupt In Iceland

Discussion for article #226790

Speaking on behalf of the conservative movement, I’d like to say:

Based on the exceptional scientific knowledge God gave conservative Republicans and no one else in the world, dedicated conservative representatives like Scott in Florida, Walker in Wisconsin, McConnell in the Senate, Boehner in the House – not to mention intellectual heavyweights themselves Cruz, Palin, Coulter, Bachmann, Limbaugh, Drudge, Rove and countless others (sorry, O’Reilly) – agree… they have a complete handle on climate change.

And they are certain we have millions, or (finger-quotes) merely hundreds of years before climate change brings about the flooding of half the nation’s assets. Their scientific data clearly shows their emissions give us plenty of time to burn more foss…

“…lava from the volcano was melting ice beneath … Iceland’s largest [glacier]…”

What? Volcano? You mean lava can melt ice too? Did Charles or David see this coming?

Another reason for the right to criticize the President for playing golf.

If we had only listened to little Bobby Jindal, this would not be happening monitored!

The correct pronunciation of Bárđarbunga by the way, is Bawrrrtharrrboonka [with strongly rolled 'r’s]

This is a mammoth volcano. If the eruption is a strong one, it will be a BFD – Interrupted air travel, floods and ash fall in Iceland, and maybe disruption in northern hemisphere climate for a while.

Either way the name makes me giggle.

Ruh-rohh! Holy Shit…Run for your lives…
Eyjafjallajokul. Now that’s a mouthful!!

People will be spitting ash for years, while seriously trying to get that muck out of their carburetors.

Now for a musical interlude:

I remember the St. Helen’s eruption and it was a mess. Very dramatic sight, but scary for those in the path of the flow.

I remember it well. My car was covered with ash–and that was on the Oregon coast!

And let us not forget that there’s a bunch of ice on top of this volcano and should it melt all at once could cause all sorts of problems.

Still awe inspiring to see that land slide.

We were stepping out the door on the way to a ball game, everyone was outside except the ball player who yelled from the basement “Dad I think you better come see this!”

Many years later I took my grandson to see the crater and there is steam coming from it, rather nerve racking.

Charles and David knew but they have a yacht that can withstand the raising waters, they call it “The Ark Plus”, it will carry only two of one kind of species they are called “corporatists”.

I have been there a number of times, and each time is like the first. Awe inspiring beauty, and a standing warning of what is possible again. I only saw a little steam rising when I was there last month.

As a religious and social conservative with an extreme knowledge of faith-based science, I think this is god sticking it to us for all of sins: including our belief in evolution, curing lethal diseases, electing President Obama, allowing gay marriage, believing in global warming and allowing sharia law in Saudi Arabia.
