Discussion: STUNNER: Ammon And Ryan Bundy Acquitted In Oregon Standoff Trial

I’m unhappy about this verdict too, but I caution you against this kind of rhetoric. You sound like a stereotypical right winger.

And the acquitted, along with their GOP base of support, are the ones who shout, “Lock her up!

It’s as if satire clubbed irony to death with absurdity.

Or something.

Um, what? I’m not encouraging anyone to take over their homes, I’m just commenting that these same anti-government morons would whine and cry for the government’s help if someone did.

You know what? I am absolutely fine with jury nullification.

And if you vote for Trump this election, neither do you.

My hope is that Team Bundy will now invade the homes and businesses of every juror who voted to acquit. Let’s see how comfortable they are with someone moving into their space without permission, not allowing them into their own homes…for weeks. No problem, right jury?

Seriously. You can actually say this? OMG! This is the most disgusting piece of justice on display and you’re okay with it! What an fking sad statement!

Yes rural when you must wait a day so that the replacement jurist can come to town. May have been held in Portland but the jury was imported from the refuge area. More than likely most were in sympathy to the Bundy clan.

This is a criminal trial. There was an acquittal. It’s over.

Whatever one thinks of these guys - me, not much - this was a political trial and the jury voted against the government. Much like what went on in the Presidential primaries (and certainly isn’t going on with the presumed victory of Hillary Clinton).

Touche. One need not look too hard at the DAPL protests to see how the gov’t and corporate goons deal with protests comprised of people of color.

Some days after I see decisions like this made through our court system and following the history of the obstruction of the appointment of judges from the republican party and the democrats lameness in forcing the issue to get these appointment made I think we should just turn the whole damned country over to the tea party republican party and live with the consequences. Hell, how can the democrats ever get the upper hand on the justice system when we allow right wing judges and judgeships to control a majority of those positions even under a democratic President. Remember the Karl Rove interference in the ruling on the Governor of Alabama Don Siegelman? A regional judge was not replaced in Siegelman’s trial and he was sent to jail. The democrats seem to not understand the critical importance of getting their parties judges in place in a timely manner. However, I do understand the obstructon by the republican party by the filibuster and any means they can do to stop the democrats and now we see the Supreme Court being basically neutered to reverse any of the right wing BS decisions like Citizens United and the relaxing of the Civil Rights bill. I could go on and on but we continue to see stunning decisions like the Bundy acquittal.

I heard the news of the acquittal while driving to the grocery store and was stunned. Now these scofflaws will think they can pull this crap again. They did millions of dollars of damage to the preserve not to mention damaging a tribal burial ground. Yes, the damn anti-government loons won since there are a lot of them here in rural Oregon. I guess they didn’t draw from a Portland jury pool. Damn!

This is amazing(ly bad news). Was it too literally a jury of their peers ??

It wasn’t the judicial system. The jury acquitted them. Be interesting to know where those jurors live. Probably a lot of them from the Burns area where there is a lot of anti-government feeling. But I would have thought some people would have had hard feelings about all the trouble these idiots brought on their community.

This is a victory of the decades-long campaign to de-legitimize the government by the anti-American right wing. Cable TV has allowed the right wing to poison the minds of those too lazy to think critically. Daily, and for years, they are fed ridiculous, meritless, anti-government screeds

Our country is at a crossroads because far too many low-performance thinkers have been duped into believing that if they don’t like something that they have a Constitutional right to an armed rebellion. This belief is wrong on just about every level. Only a jury with an incredibly vacuous understanding of the world would throw justice to the winds like this acquittal, They are emboldening our dimmest and most dangerous citizens.

The impact on America of Islamic terrorism will pale to the vile, ever-present, stupid and armed right wing.

When they start a civil war, it won’t be because they’re right.

The Bundy family have no idea where their cattle are. The cattle are spread over a vast area of government land and many have probably died from malnutrition, etc. The Bundys are incompetent ranchers who have an over-inflated idea of their “rights”.

The jury pool was likely drawn from rural Oregon, not from the Portland area. There are many, but thankfully not all, who think they have a god-given right to public land to abuse as they see fit. Unfortunately this jury must have been made up from a majority of the latter. I would hope there are still charges of destruction of government property and desecration of Native American burial grounds that are still pending.

You can only do that if the jury finds them guilty.

I agree, Meri. This is what I thought when I heard the verdict on the radio: that it will just embolden idiots like the Bundys and militia groups which are as plentiful as fleas in this country to commit bolder criminal takeovers and do more damage at the taxpayers’ expense. They will be waiving around their amended version of the Constitution. This on top of Trump and his moron followers is nearly more than I can bear. I am glad my husband and I will be out of the country for a week even if it involves a grueling trip. I’ll miss the last week of campaigning and election day. My nerves can hopefully settle down a little before we return.
