Discussion: Study: World's Richest 1% Will Own More Wealth Than Bottom 99% By 2016

Discussion for article #232201

Actually, those graphs trend to show that before long the 1% will have ALL the wealth, and then the greedy parasite will have killed the host and will have no means of feeding. Poor, starving 1%!

That’s what Marx said…in the end it will all be in the hands of a few. But he was crazy…right?

What’s with the pic of those two upper middle class guys when you should be showing Putin, Romney, Bush and Sheldon Adelson?

Er, click through to the study. The first graph tells a different story, that it was actually greater wealth separation in 2000 than today. I believe that the headline is cherry picking stats to make a point, but nevertheless, the huge disparity in wealth can’t ultimately be good for anyone. It suppresses demand or generates unsustainable borrowing (e.g. 2007), social unrest (Islamic extremism for instance), and political stagnation (gridlock anyone?) can be results of this kind of inequality.

So long as this is true nothing that can be achieved through the democratic process amounts to a hill of beans. There should be a global/international tax on the wealthy to remedy and prevent this sort of inequality.

No tax havens on Planet Earth.

It’s not enough. They want more. They want it all.

Hoarding tons of money is an illness.

Why would you want more than you can possibly spend?

Yet, Fox & repubs. is saying Pres. Obama raising taxes on these people is hurting jobs and the people.

Can’t give workers a raise, but they alright with cutting workers pension, gutting Social Security, cutting Medicare/Medicade can’t find the money in the budget for America kids EDUCATION (extending early childhood edu., or the Pres. 1st two years free community college). But American people is all right with given away people livelihood to these people.

And yet the 1% can get the 99 to vote for policies and people that give the 1% even more, how? Because they think: “Someday I’m gonna be rich too!”

The chances of anyone becoming a 1%er starting from zero in this day and age is almost nil. However, the vast majority of people believe the American Dream is still possible.

This will end in bloodshed. Income redistribution always does. The peasants in Russia believed that the Czar talked to God every week yet the last Czar wound up in a well with bullet holes in his head. Hard to believe that the right wing terrorists in Congress decided to try to strip everything from the 99% but their guns.

Bad mistake. Mark my words, shit’s about to get real, yo.

It’s more about “power” than “spending” with many of these people. It’s like a rapist, it’s not really about the sex, it’s about the power and domination. Sickness.

Oh c’mon. The rich have all this wealth because they are better than us. They created all this wealth through their hard work, initiative, and superior intelligence. That they share around half of it with the rest of us just goes to show how really nice they are.

You betcha, since the Good Lord has in His plans at least one of us real honest, hard-working real Americans to win the Powerball soon. And that’s, like, $300 million. And we don’t want Obama taking our hard-earned winnings away from us with no “One Percenter Tax”. I sure hope they all boo him tomorrow at the State of the Union when he pronounces that idea.

yup. There is a huge amount of wealth being passed from seniors to the next generation right now, too (as the rich old folks are dying). It’s making for an unusual new class of rich people.
