Discussion for article #228805
I don’t get the fake surprise when ubiquitous racism is noticed. Why it’s only within the lifetimes of most young people (maybe 10 years) that black reporters/columnists have been on cable news channels.
Watch a movie from the 1990s and not even the early 90s to see shocking, by today’s standards, racial stereotyping, homophobia and, of course, the blatant sexism that still rules.
I am quite sure that ALEC performed similar studies prior to sponsoring the model legislation for Voter ID in the slew of states where it became law. They are evil corporate fascists, but they also do their homework. If actual vote fraud is the original sin of democracy, then what we are seeing today is it’s kissing cousin.
Even Judge Posner has figured this one out, and he is a Reagan appointee.
The only thing more scary than an unarmed black person, is an unarmed black person in a voting booth!
But Chief Justice Roberts assured us that racial discrimination in voting is a thing of the past—showing clearly what a moronic right-wing jackass he is.
Voter ID laws have one purpose and one purpose only—to keep blacks from voting.
That those laws also keep students, poor folks, and the elderly from voting is just icing on the cake for the racist conservatives who write and pass such un-American and anti-American laws.
An interesting take on people placed in situations where interracial adjustment has been institutionalized.

In other news, water is wet.
Being a minority in America is exhausting. You just can’t keep up with all the mundane, previously uncontroversial things white people are going to find suspect. Now that jaywalking, playing loud music, carrying tea and Skittles, and selling loosies are “crimes” punishable by death, I guess it only makes sense that voting is suspicious too.
From the explanation page of the study:
Ages ranged from 18 to 87, with a mean of 51.4 and a median of 55.
So half the people in the study were old enough to have lived during segregation. I’m shocked it was only a 6-point difference in the overall effect.
My race is a fucking disgrace.
Remember the film The Defiant Ones circa 1958? A white convict, played by Tony Curtis and a black convict, Sidney Poitier, escape and are chained together for the duration of the film, and Curtis only got the role because Robert Mitchum, the working man’s hero, didn’t want to be chained to a black man for 90 minutes.
If it’s 73 percent… that means quite a few [center/left] white-eyes are down with suppressing the minority vote too.
Never heard about that, but interesting. Meanwhile, Charleston Heston – who many liberals saw as some gun extremist who did Bible stuff – supported civil rights in the 1960s.
In St. Louis in August police shot a mentally disturbed man, Kajieme Powell, ten times and then handcuffed him while he was dead on the ground.
Well, for the racists, it’s just black folk. For Republican strategists, it’s the entire list, because we can’t have them selecting non-Republicans for office now, can we?
Hell, one kid was pepper-sprayed for being at home while black. Sheeee-yit!
Excellent point.
It’s funny…Watch an NBA or NFL game. Look at the sponsors during the commercials. And you know that the people these commercials are geared to aren’t those asked the voting questions.
No, THOSE folks are the ones the pharmaceutical commercials flooding cable news are geared to.
Sometimes I watch the commercials geared to the Sports Fans with two perspectives: I look at the kids portrayed, with their lives ahead of them and their relative absence of Hate directed against people of different colors–and smile at Martin Luther King’s 1963 Speech.
And I think about the older people watching the same commercials (Old People watch the NFL too) and I chuckle at what they might be thinking when they see all of the diversity and inclusiveness portayed there.
White folks are a mess.
I guess 6 percent of white folk need to be reminded why they support voter ID. Heh.
There isn’t enough facepalm in the universe for me to express myself about this.
