Are Dotartd and Co. still talking about arming teachers?

About 10 students left West Liberty-Salem High School — which witnessed a shooting last year — despite a warning they could face detention or more serious discipline.

Nice to see the administrators doing everything they can to protect students.

Good work, kids! Nice to see some actual patriots taking action.

And…of course…there was the teacher in Georgia who barricaded himself in his classroom and fired his gun…two weeks after Parkland. (no one was hurt, thank God)

The kids at all of the high schools in our district, including my son’s, walked out this morning. I can’t read these stories without tears welling up in my eyes, It’s both inspiring and breaks my heart at the same time.

Quite proud of them standing their ground and making their statement.

Now if anyone in power is actually listening…

No. The Republicans aren’t listening. They have NRA dollar bills stuffing their ears.

I love it that the kids are doing this, and I applaud them, but if they want to have an effect they have to stay at it. It will take years before they’re heard – and put the fear of god into the NRA’s tools. Public opinion changing enough to make campaign money mean less than the threat of getting voted out isn’t going to happen anytime soon.

The Republicans are a minority. These kids are making noise, and the GOP is ignoring them at their own peril.

That said, yes, the road will be long. But a lot of parents have our kids’ backs on this too.

And the republicans will pay for not listening. Each classroom - future new votes - who will remember who listens and who doesn’t. The NRA may air scare ads in the future campaigns - but those for whom those ads are effective will soon be far outnumbered by this media savvy, activated future generation. Who will all come on-line as voters within the next few election cycles.

Have to share this journalists tweet - and recommend that you go to her Twitter feed - where she is retweeting stories/photos of various student walkouts across the country. These kids can lead!

Inspired.

I’m anticipating that my Junior will say that he stayed in his seat while most of his classmates walked out. That breaks my heart.

I can’t force a message into his head (especially if he’s already stuffed it with nonsense from Ivan and company). All I can do is wait for moments and explain my positions.

Which puts them a couple competency notches above our White House.

The schools have very clear liability exposure if they haven’t made preparations for adequate supervision if kids walk out. Some schools freaked out about this. Some schools worked together with students to allow a student-led, meaningful protest while protecting the students and the school. Some schools, however, were openly hostile to the protest. That’s going to make a lasting impression on the students.

A niece and a nephew of mine were apolitical as teens. They attended a megachurch (years later the parents finally saw how politicized and icky it was and left), and had all the indoctrination needed to be good little worker bees for the status quo (this was in the W years).

Flaming millenial liberals - which started growing in awareness in college, and then blossomed as they entered the workforce. I am no longer the sole liberal of my and the next generation. Am joined by my sister and bil, and their two kids. Bro - at least as moderated his conservatism - and is appalled by Trump - at xmas he hurled the first Trump insult into the conversation. I laughed: “Hey, that’s my job!” He responded - “everyone here would have said it.” He grew somber and admitted that he couldn’t have imaged it was going to be this bad, he said he thought some of it was just an act.

Take your opportunities for explanations as you get the opportunity. Encourage thinking. Let time/exposure/learning run its course. Yikes - sorry for the lecture - I really just started out in empathy. And, I guess, in I used to teach teenagers mode.

With a hell of a lot less spelling errors, no doubt.
