Discussion for article #243604
should Marshawn Lynch change his last name, too? methinks we’re getting a bit out of hand here.
This is stupid. How do these kids think they are going to function in the real world? If they can find a job after graduation, the experience will be eye-opening. Such delicate flowers.
That’s up there with PETA wanting Fishkill, NY to change its name to “Fishsave.” “Kill” is Dutch for stream, and Lynch is a common name. This kind of pointless oversensitive stuff gives progressives a bad name.
Wait until they get to Toadsuck, Arkansas.
Maybe rename The White House? Sounds racist.
There’s a certain type of offensively named short-handled square-bladed digging implement that you kids need to be picketing garden-supply stores over, if you’re looking for something to do.
I’m sorry, but at some point one has to admit they’ve jumped the shark and for me this is it. It’s a man’s name, you stupid fucks. Stop overreaching and damaging your foundation for having your positions taken seriously.
I’m black.
This isn’t offensive. Grow up.
Why not just do the obvious, rename it the Clyde A. Lynch Memorial Hall? Full names are often used in naming buildings etc. That removes any racial overtones but preserves the honor for Clyde Lynch’s memory. Where’s someone with some common sense in that dispute, anyway?
It’s my experience than in some academic settings these little kerfuffles can take on a life of their own and it’s as much as your job is worth to suggest that people just get over it because it’s silly.
Where was my trigger warning about the content of this article?
The way these demands have been getting sillier and sillier, this was completely predictable.
It’s certainly exclusionary.
So, is it going to be the “Colorless House” now, or just “The House”?
Same here. What is our newest Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, a Black woman supposed to do? And how is her name any reflection on her?
Rip from the digital pages of the Onion?
Oy vey.
Apartment dwellers become disenfranchised
I have to put this out there: I’m beginning to think this has as much to do with the movements’ ostensible issues as it does with college age students simply feeling powerless and wanting to force upon the institutions they attend some form of permanent, tangible proof that they’re not powerless. There’s no reason to shit all over this Lynch guy. He apparently, from what I’ve just quickly read elsewhere, got the school through some serious shit, raised all kinds of money and dedicated his life to the school’s survival, existence and well being. He built the hall out of love.
Is he or his legacy to be discriminated against because of the accident of his birth and surname?
I feel like there’s no introspection going on here…like these kids are simply learning to be reactionary, not visionary. Currciulum and sensitivity training aren’t enough because they’re not visible, tangible proof of their power. This isn’t Mario Savio making a timeless speech. Rather, this demand about the name of the building, sadly, reminds me of the types of thoughtless reactionary shit the Teatrolls do.
Time to start expelling students who feel that thinking hurts. The best “safe place” for these precious little morons is their parents’ basements.
