We are gun owners and have no problem with the proposals put forward by March for our Lives.

I was most impressed by the nothing-to-lose moral authority of kids who’ve survived being shot and who’ve seen their friends killed by gun violence.

Contrast with NRA’s ludicrous talking points about second amendment protection for semi-automatic rifles (false, by every legal precedent) and the panaceic effect of more guns in every situation.

Finally, some single-issue voters on the right side of the gun violence issue. More power to them.

Step #1. Vote out Republicans.

I think these young people (don’t feel quite comfortable calling them “kids”) are coming to face to face with some nasty realities. One is that adults often have very different agendas from what they say they want to happen. Adults love to give lip service to supporting kids but when it comes to pushing back against the shibboleth of second Amendment gun humpers, young people end up losing every. single. time. They are the human shields consoled with ‘thoughts and prayers’ and some adults see nothing wrong with that.

BUT - but - in order to really change the wrongs of today, they’ve GOT to get to the voting booth and vote for their interests not against them as all i the GOP do. They can’t be lulled into a false sense of victory by only marching in the streets. That can only go but so far.

Some observations about the march in Atlanta:
The protestors were remarkably peaceful and respectful.
I didn’t see a single sign or hear a single speech that advocated for taking away everyone’s guns. The focus was on the banning of assault-style weapons and ammo, the use of background checks, etc.
While many signs displayed pictures of victims of gun violence, there were no graphic displays (unlike what you might see at “Pro-Life” demonstrations) of the carnage these weapons cause.
I am very proud that John Lewis is my Congressman.

not completely a party issue…
and they are registering young people to vote… if this brings a Gun Control Wave, both major parties need to make adjustments.

And they are up against this:

I grew up on a family farm. My dad had a gun case in my parents bedroom and it had glass doors. I am not opposed to sensible gun reform as I have posted repeatedly here.
Universal background checks
Liability insurance for owners of guns
gun owners and guns should be licensed as are drivers and cars (we know how to do this)
Fold semi-auto assault rifles into the 1930’s machine gun law that requires a federal license and a tax and an extensive background check.

90% of Americans support laws like this. But, the NRA donates to Members and they listen to money because they wanna be reelected. So, the 90% who want change have the votes if they care to use it. And together we have the money to make Congress listen.

I switched over to Faux during the protest.
They had some young Republican Dweeb on there saying the march was a set up against the Republican Party
It’s only purpose to make Republicans look bad .
Like they need any help
Ol’ Faux. Fair and balanced indeed.
They are in for a rude awakening come November

Can’t help it, they are kids to me. Those kids will grow into 30 somethings, have families and careers. But heck, they are still kids to me.

“The kids are alright”

The wife and I were talking this morning. Note the wife is a decade ahead of me. I keep seeing parallels between her generation and the “kids”. Her generation represents that pivot point in the 60s when they took to the streets over the war. At the same time there was a dramatic change and battle in our culture. And that is one thing I am catching. I am definitely stoked by what I am seeing, if not a bit intimidated. The writing is on the wall. What is strange to me is the conservative culture of today went back to and is fighting to preserve their perceived culture prior to the 60s. These “kids” are several generations of culture beyond that.

I wonder what “War on…” they will come up with like Nixon did with the war on drugs so he could lock hippies up

My elderly mom and I were discussing the youth of our country and the march yesterday.

We honestly think they are a voice and force for our future for the better, and very soon.

Another Great Generation in the making.

That woman who speaks for the NRA, I believe, takes secret pleasure in seeing stories of murdered people. she’s a gun humper. Fear and sick mockery is her weapon. I think she enjoys seeing the carnage that guns do. I’m serious here. It’s like the huan species itself is dividing. One group hates being shot, the other enjoys inflicting pain.

I sort of feel that is going to be dead on arrival. Something changed this week. While the Marches occupied our time, there are so many things happening, even if they seem bad, that speak to the house of cards is falling.

The §residential text messages this morning are blathering again. Bolton may be a bad thing, but he is also a sign post showing us this is swirling down into a mess.

The CA and FB issues are getting traction out there. The Marches address a specific issue, but also clip the wings of the NRA. Then the budget and the weirdness surrounding that. This week is as the weathermen say, full of juicy air. I think it is starting to rain.

Nope they need to go. A compete ban and destruction of existing weapons.
