Discussion: Stewart To Clinton: 'No One Cares' About Your Book, Are You Running For President? (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #225112

I have to say Hillary handled herself very well. Sheā€™s willing to go with the jokes, something that helped her husband and Obama when they was running (and Hillaryā€™s running, letā€™s face it). Republicans donā€™t do self-deprecating; they just deprecate on everybody else!

Brace yourselves everybody. The minute she makes an official announcement is the second the right starts screeching incoherently about every bit of mud they think they can sling in hopes it sticks to the wall. And itā€™ll be at the top of their lungs, all day, every day. If you thought a black dude getting elected broke their fragile hate-filled brains, wait until a woman sails in. Republicans mouths will be frothing pure vile all the way to 2016 and beyond. I canā€™t wait!

I must say, I donā€™t care about either.

I remember a lot of deep, visceral hatred for her all during the '90s among the people we now call ā€œthe base.ā€ It was as though Bill was a formidable political opponent but she was something worse, the arch-feminazi, the thing in Orwellā€™s Room 101 that you fear the most.

Psstā€¦they arenā€™t waiting for an official announcement. See Rove comments about brain injury and the resulting piling on, or the freak out over Chelsea being pregnant and claims that Hilary orchestrated the pregnancy strictly for her own political purposes.

Sadly, thatā€™s just the warm-up act. Once the announcement is made, they will ramp the screeching up past 11. So who does she pick for VP?

Julian Castro.

Aside from ā€˜ticking all the boxesā€™ to round out a (D) ticket?
Thereā€™s the added bonus of having RWNJ heads explode by having the name ā€˜CASTROā€™ on a POTUS ticket.

Yeah me neither.

This is what it looks like when two really smart people with senses of humor interact. Love it.

Wait, thats not whats happening now? With the mediaā€™s help?

He should lock down the Hispanic vote, Maybe even turn Texas blue. Heā€™s good looking and well spoken, but I worry he is young and untested.

How well can he stand up to the snarling wingnuts?

He can probably name the newspapers he reads and a Supreme Court decision he disagrees with.

While I agree about the optics of Castro being great, lack of experience makes him a really bad choice. Mayor of San Antonio and an appointment to head up HUD which hasnā€™t even taken effect yet makes such a ticket very vulnerable to legitimate questions of whether or not he could step behind the big desk should something bad happen. It was one of the legitimate critiques against the Kerry/Edwards ticket in 2004.

So Sarah Palin is our threshold for VP picks on our side?

Agreed. Actually my main interest is if someone is going to save me from having to vote for Hillary again. If sheā€™s the nominee I have to vote for her, and we canā€™t be so lucky as to have another Obama out there can we?

San Antonio ainā€™t Wasilla!
As mayor of the 7th-largest U.S. city-- Iā€™ve not heard any credible marks against his character or work ethic during his 5yrs in office. Castroā€™s rise hasnā€™t been meteoric-- but the trajectory is impressive.
Heā€™s bright and wise beyond his years.

And? Heā€™ll have the best coaching a VP candidate could ask for.

The problem with Hillary Clinton is that there is a much better person out there for the job of Potus: Elizabeth Warren.

I like the idea of having someone in the job who not only is not in the pocket of special interests, but has a track record of standing up for American taxpayers. I prefer someone like Warren, who never even aspired to elective office until late in her career, and only then because she thought it was the best way to carry on her fight to equal the economic playing field for us all, over someone like Hillary Clinton, who is now as inside the Beltway as an insider can get.

If it comes down to voting for someone who will treat bankers and fatcats no better than anyone else, the choice is clear and it is not Hillary Clinton.

The problem is: Elizabeth Warren will only decide to run if she believes doing so will actually make a difference. The main reason Hillary Clinton will run, in my humble opinion, is simply because she just wants to be the first American woman president and feels she deserves the job. I think her election will lead to no significant improvement in life for the people of this country, unless we are talking about the 1% who already have the rules written in their favor.

Just once, Iā€™d like to have a clear choice of a candidate who I know is in it for (all) the American people. Sure, if Hillary is the democratic candidate, she will be a better choice than any GOP opponent (at least anyone Iā€™ve knowledge of), but for once, wouldnā€™t it be great for the country to have someone running who is more than simply the least worst candidate marketed by the two major political parties?

I know thereā€™s a lot of noise about her now (Roveā€™s comments, the sad attempt at bringing 90s era Lewinsky back, etc.), but thatā€™s just a warm up as I see it. Iā€™m talking about a near complete unhinging of the right.

I donā€™t know his full range of positions (no red flags Iā€™m aware of) but Martin Oā€™Malley might be worth the look.
