Discussion: Stevens: 'Not Healthy To Get A New Justice That Can Only Do A Part Time Job'

Ninety-eight years old, and there’s more sophisticated thought and coherent expression in that 1:38 of tape than Donald Trump has put together in a lifetime.

And you just know he’s thinking: “who the hell are those two kids behind me?”

Since Kavenaugh would be biased against almost all cases brought before SCOTUS, perhaps covfefe boy for the conservative justices would be appropriate.

He’ll be really part time considering he’ll probably be hung over most of the time. Hope the other justices have a good time with this one.

Oh, I’m quite sure he would be happy to vote even on cases in which he has bias. Is Justice Stevens honestly imagining Kavanaugh would recuse himself?

His hearing displayed so many levels of bad and biased judgement as is being said. But the one thing to pay attention to is the simple fact he went in there prepared to do this performance. And he thought it was a good thing. That judgement, first and foremost needs to be discussed.

Everyone seems to talk like he lost it. It was intentional.

In just one sentence, Justice Stevens reprimands the party-before-country republicans and reminds kavanaugh that we all know he’s a craven partisan. Not healthy indeed!

You know that really largely depends on the CJ who just might pressure him into recusing himself.

I don’t imagine Roberts is very happy with the prospect of having this flaming bag of shit dumped on his doorstep.

I’m dead sure he’s not - you’re right. Nothing means more to Roberts than the legacy of Roberts.

It’s beer o’clock, boys. I’m done for the day.

Ciao! :sunglasses:

I agree. This was planned all along, as was his being chosen. They hoped that there would be pushback so that the base would be energized.

When McConnell announced that he would not give Merrick Garland a vote, Obama had the opportunity to pick his moment and make a surprise recess appointment to the Court. Obama should have done so by making a recess appointment of Stevens; Stevens would have agreed. But either Obama didn’t think about doing this - a great failure of imagination - or he shied away from doing so - a great failure of nerve. For those who tut tut this, here is a little history lesson. Eisenhower did precisely this with Earl Warren.

Stevens makes Grassley Hatch et al look like the youth vote. And yet he’s more coherent than any of them.

Did Roberts send him?

That’s giving Dotard credit for foresight that’s been absent heretofore, in nearly everything else. Sure it’s perhaps turned out to be a nice side bene—but this was all about getting his guy in there, one who could be blackmailed, but above all a hack partisan; one who would thwart any investigations into his wrongdoing. Kav’s views here are way outside even the RW mainstream.

ETA—and lets be clear: Kavtheliar holds this views for republican presidents; for Democratic ones, he’s already demonstrated nothing is out of bounds, in terms of bringing the full power of national law enforcement to intimidate a grieving widow and family (Foster), a scared young woman having a consensual affair (Lewinsky), or prying into the sex life of a First Lady and tormenting and ridiculing her daughter (Hillary and Chelsea).

When one is reading from your written prepared remarks then you “didn’t get emotional,” you planned the rant.
