Discussion: Steve Scalise Wins Boehner Allies In Race For House Majority Whip

Discussion for article #224063

Yes, it’s cheap scatological humor but…wait for it…

They are all no. 2 as far as I’m concerned!

It appears as though McCarthy’s former aide during his time as House Whip is being given the bum’s rush. Why? He’s not a teabagger and hence no support.

I can only figure that the GOP “establishment” or whatever remains of them aren’t too happy with what’s going on. Basically, the teabaggers duty was to agitate and vote against the gov’t. Now, they want to actually be in the gov’t. to destroy it Scalise is one of the bigger freaks in the crazy caucus and I can’t imagine that he’ll work too well with McCarthy a House Whip.

Consolation prize to appease the nihilist T’baggers and their cheerleaders on AM radio. No real power in the position, just an errand boy to do GOP leadership’s bidding.

Still, it won’t satisfy the crazy base.

Well, I can’t figure the back room boys of the establishment were ever happy with Cantor, either. Boehner certainly never felt at ease with him as the Majority Leader (and rightly so).

The interesting part is, that any TPer who actually gets a leadership position, is going to find himself right in the same pickle that Cantor was in. Namely, that they are from very red ultra conservative districts, and merely being part of leadership makes one suspect of being a RINO. And thus, vulnerable to being ousted by a nobody that can scream “FREEDUM” louder than they can.

“just an errand boy to do GOP leadership’s bidding”

Bingo! And thus, instantly vilified by the tea party base that elected them to office in the first place. Its going to be a very vicious cycle.

Oh, absolutely. But I can’t imagine that Boner is feeling too good about his tenure after the midterms. I read somewhere that Hensarling took himself out of the race on purpose with the understanding that McCarthy back him after the midterms for Boner’s spot. Now that sounds real to me. I really thought that this race was Hensarling’s to lose and if he pulled out of it on purpose, then I believe it’s because he see a better prize on the horizon after the midterms.

I agree that the the Whip is essentially a toothless position driven by the establishment. But it seems as if there are now more baggers than establishment GOP. In which case, Scalise + Hensarling would give the teabaggers real control of the House. Not only in sheer numbers but in terms of hierarchy. Not a good balance.

Is this where he will be relatively harmless, but will appease the TP??

Young Guns 2.0! Or are we already on v 3.0? It’s so hard to keep track of all of this rebranding…

Hensarling absolutely has his eyes on Boehner’s position. I’ve not heard that particular rumor yet, but without a doubt there are tons of back room meetings and deals being offered within the republican ranks right now. I think I referred to it as the real House of Cards going on right now.

And yes, the TPers absolutely see a window of opportunity to attempt a “coup” of sorts and seize House leadership. I don’t think they have the experience, cunning, relationships or favors to make it happen, but the certainly are going to try.
