Discussion: Stephen Hawking: 'Trump's Action Could Push The Earth Over The Brink'

DMT.

True. It’s just increasingly clear that more of that will require foreign travel in the next few years.

Well, you’re in the right place for it.

(BTW, there is a good hunter/jumper horse show in Santa Fe for several weeks this month and next, if you like horses.).

O yeah?

Neither of us are risking our law licenses to find out.

Depends on what you’ve already seen here, to me anyway. There’s a lot to see in the US, especially if it’s all going away.

The 19 Rio Grande pueblos, and if you don’t have time or patience for al 19 since most aren’t much, then at least see Acoma and Taos.

Chaco Canyon in the Four Corners. The Hopi 3 Mesas in northern Az, The Black Canyon of the Gunnison River (of course the Grand Cayon, but I’m concentrating on lesser known sites) Bandelier, Mesa Verde, the Rockies - the current version is the 3d version of that mountain range to go up and weather back down again - and that was barely a couple of hours in geological time.

what are terra- forming technologies?

Terraforming is the process of changing the planetary environment. Generally the goal is to make the target environment more compatible for human habitation, but you could say that man-made climate change is itself a kind of terraforming. So what solcalista is suggesting is developing technologies to scrub the CO2 from the atmosphere and things like that on a planetary scale. It’s something that’s often the focus of science fiction, but currently is largely theoretical in actual practice (since we only currently have access to one planet to work with).

“I fear evolution has inbuilt greed and aggression to the human genome. There is no sign of conflict lessening"

I have often thought that white racism, which seem to be stronger that other races, is due to evolution. That white people were an anomaly and that some darker people discriminated against them out of fear initially so that only the most aggressive whites were able to survive. And then when they had large enough populations they retaliated and tried to take over. And this aggressive tendence as yet to be breed out of us.

what are terra- forming technologies?

Also called geoengineering. These are technologies for directly manipulating earth’s climate – on a massive scale. Wikipedia article here.

ETA: Don’t get me wrong, here. I’m not sanguine about humanity’s ability to deal with global warming. There’s also no known or hypothesized future tech that will save us from runaway global warming. What I’m saying is that it’s already too late. In addition to transforming our consumption patterns, we’ll also need to develop climate engineering technology just to survive. And even then, the future looks dicey. I’m saying Hawking is wrong in his implication that our current climate accords could prevent this from happening. They won’t and can’t because they’re woefully inadequate and far, far too late.

Speak for yourself = I’m retired officially and DMT is worth it anyway. It’s just so damned hard to find.

The South Boundary trail is pretty amazing too. You can access it by car through Garcia Park, where you see that big covered wagon from the Taos - Angel Fire highway. Hike, mountain bike or horseback all work well. Late summer after the monsoons for wild flowers and early fall for trails covered with golden aspen leaves and bordered with the first powder snow. A sky so blue at that altitude that it is almost black.

“And who wants to bet someone whispered in his ear seconds before, telling him who Buzz Aldrin is.”

Yes–But Trump heard it as “Buzz Lightyear,” hence all his demented infinity gibbering.
