Who knew that crashing your truck into your cherished monument was wrong?

… and a collision between a semitrailer and a crane assigned to remove the statue.
The truck driver was killed.

I guess he showed them.

American hero Rush Limbaugh fled discovered Hurricane Irma would make it “legally impossible” for him to do his show from Palm Beach, so he fled evacuated on his Gulfstream IV to the nearest shelter LA.

Another reason not to go to Dallas.

“First they came for the statues, but I didn’t speak because I wasn’t a statue! Wolverines!” The alt-right is unhinged.

City officials said in a statement that an art conservator monitored the proper handling of the statue, and police tactical officers with automatic rifles provided security.

Let that rattle around in your head for a moment. When was the last time you saw ‘tactical officers’, ‘automatic rifles’, and ‘art conservator’ mentioned in the same sentence?

Dallas City Council does Dallas.

Welsome to Texas. Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammo.

There have probably been some displays of conceptual art that could have been improved by the presence of a S.W.A.T. team.

So a domestic terrorist tried to kill government contractors in the performance of their duty, and was killed in the attempt. How interesting.

Natural Selection strikes again
EDIT: I rescind this snarky comment. No evidence that this crash was intentional

This headline seems miisleading. The crane was driving into Dallas on Sunday and was hit by a truck that ran a light. Not necessarily pro confederate or related to statue removal.

This park has been a hangout for the LGBT community and hippies for years. Most people in Dallas are thrilled that the statue is gone. Yay Mayor Rawlings!!!

What a terrible headline on this article. I can’t find any news reports that indicate it was anything other than a traffic accident.

You are SO right! I have searched everywhere, and the driver was identified as Darrell Murray, 66, of Duncanville, TX, but there is zero evidence this was intentional. Looks like he just ran a red light.

This is terribly shoddy journalism not typical of TPM.

The crane-truck collision occurred away from the statue location, there was no way that the truck driver knew where the crane was headed. It sounds like careless or drunk driving on the part of the truck driver. The crane was damaged and they had to find another one to finally take the statue down. A drunk driver did drive through barricades surrounding the statue earlier but his motivation wasn’t clear – maybe just a drunk looking for something to run into.

Thanks. In a weird way that makes me feel better.
