Discussion for article #229516
Then why didn’t they just choose to not endorse either candidate? They could’ve just written the editorial they did, and left out an endorsement.
Someone (sob!)…Stop them before they endorse again! (sniffle!)
“In one corner, the paper wrote, was Grimm – a “hot-headed” Republican looking at a 20-count indictment. In the other was Democrat Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. who the Advance painted as uninformed and opportunistic.”
Soooo, this is their analysis:
Candidate A - Criminal.
Candidate B - Fairly typical Politician.
Ergo, candidate A is the better choice.
Have they published which candidate/party has spent more advertising dollars in their paper?
Because they’re going to endorse a GOP’er no matter what. The choice in this one is not near as bad as that excuse making paper paints it to be. They ragged on the Democrat for being “uninformed and opportunistic” but endorsed a guy that is likely going to jail. What poll isn’t opportunistic? And none of them are informed.
It’s a GOP’er thing. That’s Staten Island and that rag is going to go for the GOP’er.
Lived there most of my life. The Staten Island Advance is suitable only for wrapping fish.
then why in the hell did the paper endorse the man. it would have made a stronger point about the paltry qualifications of either candidate by withholding any endorsement …
So if he has to resign because of the criminal charges, who would get appointed to the seat, or would there be a special election?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Fair point.
“Sometimes I get my Italian up.”
yeah, that’s not what an Italian would do. An Italian would let you think everything is fine and then when you don’t suspect it, throw you off the balcony.
Jon Stewart did a pretty good job of explaining this race. Grimm’s opponent is, truly, hilariously stupid. As others have said, not endorsing either candidate (or maybe even endorsing the third-party candidate) was the best option.
Endorsement was a mistake. It was an intern’s fault.
Special election for House seats with the date set by the Governor (if he chooses, he can leave it vacant until the next general election). The Governor appoints people to fill vacant Senate seats.
Is the paper disgusted enough to withdraw its endorsement. If not, why not??
That was the first thing that came to my mind.
Sometimes before an election there is no way to know whether you are endorsing a future criminal. In this case they know and are going to do it anyway.
People get the kind of government they deserve. Shame on constituents of Staten Island if they pay any attention to The Advance’s endorsement. They will then have the governance they deserve. And all they have to do is look a little further west to the governorship of New Jersey to see the ramifications of electing a political hack.
You’ll have to point me to the law that says they have to endorse someone…I’m pretty sure I haven’t come across that one…
People still read news-papers?
