State Dept.: US Govā€™t Employee In China Reports ā€˜Abnormal Sound And Pressureā€™

That's the same feeling that comes over me when Rap or Country music invades my personal space. I know what this guy is experiencing. Even a few seconds of rape or infidelity put to music causes irritatiion.

This series of events both constitute an attack on the United States. If it turns out that this occurrence was a State-Sponsored activity, specifically targeted at the Embassies, then it could (and should) be construed as an act of war.
It is just as egregious as having a state-sponsored armed mob invade our sovereign diplomatic space and do injury to American citizens and interests in China, Cuba or anywhere else.
China is no longer in the throes of the ā€œGreat Leap Forwardā€, nor is Cuba still struggling to rid itself of Batista. So these events are not a consequence of a host Government somehow out of control of its people as was claimed somewhere like Iran in 1980.
I believe incontrovertibly that America was attacked in 2016 also.

But the International community still recognizes and accepts the unique (and reciprocally accepted) status of Embassies and Consulates under The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. It is that pact that has been and is being flagrantly violated in these instances.
The sources and origins of these attacks also pose an ongoing threat to American Allies.
This is one story that should not be allowed to slide off the ā€œgreased panā€ of Americaā€™s political news.
Amid the ever flowing ā€œdevelopmentsā€ in American politics these days, it is this story that represents another clear and present danger to America abroad in an unsettled world.

If it doesnā€™t threaten the approval and construction of a Trump hotel, resort or golf course itā€™s of no consequence.

ā€œabnormal sensations of sound and pressureā€

Yeah, buddy. We have it back here in the good old US of A, too. Itā€™s called ā€œTRUMPā€.

Donald Trump will solve this major diplomatic problem by promptly moving the Chinese embassy to Jerusalem.

The Great Orange Abomination is not the entire Government, my Friend. While I certainly agree that no action will be forthcoming from the bloated infection in the Oval Office, I also know how much he and his cheap rented minions do not know about how real governments work. I take comfort and trust that those out of sight and beyond the hearing of the micro-mind on Pennsylvania Ave will give this issue fuller attention and that we may hear about it eventually.
Or at least, I certainly hope so. For Americaā€™s sake.

Thank you very much indeed. I now have thoughts of Glatt Kosher Chinese Food rolling around my brain before breakfast! snicker

This is concerning and definitely merits investigation. That being said, so far weā€™re talking about one person experiencing as-yet unexplained symptoms. Could it be related to the still-unexplained incidents in Cuba? Itā€™s certainly possible, but itā€™s also far from certain. If more diplomatic staff in China report similar experiences, then weā€™re looking at a very worrisome development.

First Cuba now Chinaā€¦Iā€™m just going to throw this outā€¦I think itā€™s Russians doing it, not Cubans or Chinese.

Russia does have the requisite history of conducting such attacks, and before this news from China today, i would have agreed with you. Now, however, iā€™m not as convinced, mostly because, from what i know (not much), there is no way the Chinese would permit the Russians to conduct these types of attacks against Americans within their own country. Maybe so, but iā€™ve not seen that level of collusion between the Chinese and the Russians before.

I am following this story quite closely, though. I suffer from the exact same symptoms as the staff in Cuba, but i know exactly where my symptoms come from. The Americans in Cuba, and now China, that is a yuge mystery. Sound waves are a viable force to rupture the windows to the inner ear, thus affecting fluid pressures necessary for balance. However, any sound wave strong enough to cause that level of damage is the equivalent of a bomb exploding at a distance of just a few feet (think IEDs). That is not what is being described as the cause in the case of Cuba, and now China. Scientists in this country are totally unaware of any sound wave that can be manipulated and directed in such a way that can cause that same level of damage, or can be used as a weapon as it is apparently being used. This is new territory on a number of different levels.

Yeah, funny that if Cuba and China wanted to go after our embassies, they would shit in their own back yard where the finger can be pointed at them. Youā€™d think they could just go to any number of US embassies located in non-authoritarian countries with weak border controls and non-police states, and let 'er rip.

Then again, if you were another large authoritarian country with a proven track record of trolling the US, even to the point of interfering with our elections, what better than to drive a wedge into what had been our reemerging relationship with Cuba and our solid relationship with China? Iā€™ve heard Russians are very jealous of their exā€™s.

I completely agree. Or one of the many multi-national Merchants of Death needing to drum up another couple hundred billion dollars in business.

I donā€™t think the Russians asked, they just did it. Itā€™s a part of their plan doing it in other countries we donā€™t fully trust to get us mad at that country and maybe throw us off of them.

Hmmmmā€¦Maybe so.

Hey it was just an idea that popped into my head and so I threw it out there. No proof or anything on my part, just a wild idea.

Seems Russia isnā€™t too thrilled with the upcoming meeting.

Some researchers at the University of Michigan studied recordings of the sounds heard by the American diplomats in Cuba theorized that itā€™s not an attack per se, but a faulty listening device causing feedback. From the article:
The researchers generated ultrasound using two ultrasonic emittersā€”a 25 kHz tone combined with a 180 Hz tone modulated on a 32 kHz carrier. The method is similar to the concept AM radio, but the researchers used ultrasound instead of radio waves.

Think of 32 kHz as the stationā€™s frequency. When the 25 kHz tone interferes with the transmission, audible sound at 7 kHz results. The researchers also built a proof of concept device to simulate covert eavesdropping by playing a song instead of the 180 Hz tone over the 32 kHz ultrasonic carrier.
MUCHAS, MUCHAS GRACIAS!!! This is the most plausible theory iā€™ve heard yet.

It would, however, be the epitome of irony if this whole shootinā€™ match was our own doing.

Well even if my wild ass guess turns out wrong Iā€™ll add this to the mix, both Malaysian planes for what thatā€™s worth.

Plane supposedly shot down by Russian Missile

And ask if a similar thing happened to the jet lost in the Pacific thatā€™s never been found.
