as far as I understand the US does little fund it’s own debt, foreign money buys bonds to fund much of our government obligations, when we keep shitting on the world, what is their motivation to continue to fund our obstinate behavior? in reality the world funds our military. what’s to keep foreign bond purchasers in the future from saying, you don’t do what we want, we won’t buy your bonds, you can float your own boats?
This UN vote may be one of the biggest unforced errors in world history when everything plays out. we are losing so much clout, and when we stop funding the UN, it will be even more so. almost seems like a lesson based on attracting more flies with honey than vinegar is playing out before our eyes, with relatively low cost funding of the UN and programs having purchased influence around the globe in the past, remove the carrot, remove the influence, again, just bullying our way through is unlikely to be a long term successful strategy
