Commendable, but won’t do a thing.
Tweeto Donnie will just ignore it, since it is based on experience, knowledge, and common sense, not to mention decency.
you resit where and how you can. Just because it may not do anything obvious doesn’t mean you don’t do it. Death by a thousand cuts comes to mind.
Haven’t heard anything from Diplomat Donnie on the recent turmoil in the Ukraine as his bud Vlad gives him the first inkling that he was a stooge. I would have though at least a tweet.
Nice to know the State Department won’t have your back Donnie
Ukraine conflict: UN warns of dangerous deterioration
It’s all about having the news media talk about it. Sooner or later the stories stick. That’s how the right worked to delegitimize Obama and Clinton.
Drip, drip drip…
Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that this and all the other resistance movements are occurring and expanding, but all of this can only be changed by the courts, and Tweeto Donnie is already stacking the deck.
So didn’t Trumpelstilskin dismiss most foreign ambassadors? And how many State Dept. personnel are working out of country? Didn’t his actions just put a bullseye on them? And if one is an isolationist diminishing State Dept. is a good not a bad?
Yup, my thoughts exactly.
But they will be on record as opposing. They still have to live with their consciences.
Trump & Co only have gaping black holes where there should be a conscience.
I have here in my hand a list of 1,000 State Department employees that were known to the Secretary of State as disagreeing with me and who nevertheless are still working and shaping the policy of the State Department.
That’s by design.
I agree that people need to resist in ways they can. Of course it doesn’t make a difference to Trump and that needs to be shown. It is also really critical that these things have large enough numbers associated with them that retaliation against individuals is either less likely or at least extremely obvious. Career professionals are putting themselves and their careers on the line, going to every length possible to follow rules that permit them to weigh in on policy based on actual facts and professional knowledge as opposed to the unsubstantiated political rhetoric currently guiding these actions. They do this knowing full well the reaction from the people running this administration (their elected and politically appointed bosses) are almost certainly going to be hostile and take aim at them rather than listening or considering the input of people who have been doing this work for years on behalf of the citizens of the U.S. under administrations led by both parties. This is a brave stand for people with a lot more to lose than the egomaniac threatening them. After all, they are putting their careers and salaries on the line to help protect our nation’s security and people’s lives. They aren’t just playing billionaire shell games with Daddy’s money.
“I think that they should get with the program or they can go,” says Spicer to the 1,000 diplomats. Way to demoralize the troops on the ground. Shameful. It’s a my way or the highway administration and we can expect 4 years of no apologies, no mistakes, we’re perfect attitude no matter how much they screw up.
One might just as well say the current occupant should get with the program of making good policy or he should go. Slow-to-learn apprentices do sometimes get fired, I hear.
So much disloyalty to the Great Leader… soon the purifying fire of the Dutiful Purge will touch them all and another department of government will be found to be unnecessary for Security Reasons.
Heard a new name for current occupant on The Daily Show: 45.
Laurence Fishburne calls him that and Trevor Noah explains the double entendre in South African slang
Heh. Thing is, there isn’t a thing you can say that doesn’t sound dirty to someone somewhere in the world. International corporations pay big bucks to find names for stuff that provoke the least sniggering.
Cussing is fun. Especially creative cussing. And we have such rich source material these days!
The extraordinary width and depth of protests against Trump’s policies have already caused some of them to be walked back. Not officially, of course, since they’re too insecure to ever admit mistakes, but they’re already responding to the protests. Just as importantly, the protests signal to others that they’re not alone. As the one sign read “First they came for the Muslims, and I said NOT THIS TIME MOTHERF**KER”
Always enjoyed it, and kind of collect cusses and put-downs from around the world. The only thing is I was really making an effort in recent years to be less reflexively scornful all the time. Then Trump came along. OH WELL
Back during the Vietnam war and a few yrs after I was married to a Marine, so learned to cuss with vigor. One of my favorite sayings from back then is “Obscenity is the last refuge of the totally inarticulate motherfucker.”
Now I’m married to an Argentine and they have very colorful cuss words. One of my faves (to be accompanied by a facepalm): la concha de la lora! Translates to “the vagina of the parrot”
One Argentine cuss word I am finding much use for these days is quilombero…means shit disturber, person who likes to create chaos, drama queen.
