Discussion: Stacey Abrams Won't Run For Senate In 2020

Abrams met Schumer on Monday in Washington, ending months of eager courting by the hard-charging New Yorker and leaving him to plot another uphill path to reversing Republicans 53-47 Senate advantage.

Glad he’s trying, anyway.

Hope he finds a candidate.

While it’s good to try to flip GA and TX, it’s also important to recruit someone to run in Maine and Colorado. Can’t take them for granted and presume that Dems will win. Incumbency is still quite powerful.
ETA: Looks like Andrew Romanoff is running in Colo! Now someone should go on to claim the over 3.7 million already in place for Susan Collins’ opponent.

Not sure Chuck Schumer is the one to lead Democrats to the promised land…he is very closely aligned with the monopoly controlling crooked Wall Street Banks. The middle class will never recover in the US without re-regulating the banks and restoring Glass-Steagall…something Schumer, Obama, Clinton, Pelosi, and the establishment corporatist Democrats oppose. Sadly, Schumer and Pelosi only offer social change Vs Republicans…they totally fail on offering economic change for workers and the middle class. Economics i the key to Democrats taking back our contry from corporate and Oligarchy control…and yet Pelosi and Schumer are basically on the Republican side economically.

Ego rears its ugly head again.

In Texas, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke is running for president instead of reprising his 2018 Senate bid that fell short against Republican Sen. Ted Cruz. Texas Democrats could turn to Rep. Joaquin Castro as their best shot to unseat Sen. John Cornyn. Castro’s brother, Julian, is running for president.

MJ Hegar in TX is running for the Senate, nothing against Joaquin but I was rooting MJ in her Congressional race.

The two met recently in Washington, but Abrams later downplayed the idea of teaming up, at least for now. “You don’t run for second place,” she said on ABC’s “The View.”

So, aspirants to round out and compliment the Dem ticket in 2020 are losers?

If anything I appreciate her honesty. I really think she wants to be Governor in 2022. Tomlinson is a good candidate, and if Abrams wasnt in the picture would be considered a top recruit.

Actually there are 2 great Democratic women contenders. I was very impressed with Amico as the Lt. Governor candidate last year and Tomlinson has a good bit of name recognition in this state. It would be especially sweet for David Perdue to be defeated by a woman, whatever her skin color. I would suggest to Mr. Schumer that he allow the voters to pick one and then put some real resources behind her candidacy.

In the meantime, if Abrams can keep her eyes on the voting shenanigans here, that would be a tremendous service to us all. The state legislature just got bought by the voting machine company with their levers on the current governor’s office and opted to spend over 100 million for brand new machines that will not actually have a paper trail. Will only print a receipt. This in spite of holding state wide hearings run by a “safe voting commission” that opted for machines when the overwhelming public support was for paper ballots. Another shining example of how money corrupts and absolute gobs of it absolutely corrupts.

That’s a tad harsh, but understandable. I think that both Beto and Abrams should have taken the path of patriotism and Democratic loyalty by running against Cornyn and Purdue. But Abrams is a leader and a doer, and the governorship is much more to her taste.

Ego-wise, the governorship is traditionally a better launch site for a presidential campaign than and Senate seat.

No kidding.

And Amico and Tomlinson are both definitely running?

We need good candidates in every Senate race. There is a good chance Trump’s negative coattails could drag even some red state seats into the Democratic column. It would be political neglect to miss out on those chances because we didn’t have a serious candidate running in states like TX and GA.

She is available as a VP nominee now.

It’s understandable that she wants to keep her eye on the Governor’s race next time around. That’s an executive position and it is possible to do more in that role. That’s especially true given how dysfunctional the Senate and Congress as a whole have been. You really have to enjoy constant conflict to want to be a Senator these days. Yes, it would be good for the party, but it looks as though there are two other good candidates.

Tomlinson came out and announced an exploratory committee, awaiting, I believe a decision from Abrams. Amico, IMO, is also a very good retail politician with specifically good policy ideas. I hope they both run now that Abrams has cleared the way.

VP also works occasionally. But it’s a waiting game. Not her style.

Thanks! Will learn more about him.

It wouldn’t be dysfunctional if the party that believes in governance had a 2/3 majority in both houses…
