Discussion: Sri Lankan Defense Minister Says Easter Bombings 'Retaliation' For NZ Attack

Sri Lanka’s state minister of defense said Tuesday that the Easter attack on churches, hotels and other sites in the South Asian nation was “carried out in retaliation” for the shooting massacre at two New Zealand mosques last month, according to a statement.

Maybe, but …

He did not provide evidence or explain the source of the information.

How is this different from baseless speculation?

“By now it has been established that the intelligence units were aware of this attack and a group of responsible people were informed about the impending attack,” he said. “However, this information has been circulated among only a few officials.”

Point taken.

We can discount this as official Sri Lankan policy, since it wasn’t in the form of a tweet. Nothing happens in the forest unless someone is there to tweet about it.

Sort of like your lunch must have sucked today, I didn’t see you post a photo of it on Facebook.

“Anti-Muslim bigotry fed by Buddhist nationalists has swept the country recently.
In March 2018, Buddhist mobs ransacked businesses and set houses on fire in Muslim neighborhoods around Kandy, a city in central Sri Lanka that is popular with tourists.”

Jesus wept. And so did Gautama.

The Christchurch mosque shootings were five weeks ago. I’ve read that terrorism experts think that the level of planning and coordination required for simultaneous bombings in six different places would take months of meticulous planning.

But 321 innocent lives were taken. What a monstrous tragedy. Everything else is secondary right now.

I am sorry this has nothing to do with anti-muslim bigotry in Sri Lanka. This form of organized terrorism has everything to do with the underlying virulent barbaric tendencies and terrorist institutions in sunni islam. Also, let us not deny the right of non-muslims, even when they are in majority, to defend themselves and make them culpable in jihadi sunni terrorism.

Look no further than Saudi Arabia today, look at the ghastly things crown prince Mo Bone Saw (SAW) did to Khashoggi and what he did to the dead body. As a state, Saudi Arabia has repeatedly engaged in jihadi religious genocide against the shia in the guise of foreign policy. It is in a war in Yemen and has funded terrorist groups and mosques. The main icon on its flag is an executioner’s sword.

Extremists in muslim minorities countries believe their prophet, their mullah, their god and their religion requires them to engage in terrorist acts against innocent men, women and children. This is a worldwide pattern in every country and continent in the world. The underlying values, beliefs and institutions are engendering sociopaths and psychopaths. All minority groups have to learn to live in peace with others and to resolve its disagreements by participating in public discourse and the political process without terrorizing innocents. There seems to be no slight too small or a perceived threat too remote that does not warrant a terrorist attack for these misguided jihadi sunni groups. And they are getting the money and weapons to carry out these murderous attacks from despotic sunni governments in the guise of Friday afternoon charity.

Shia, Kharjite, Ahmadiyya, Bohra, Ismaili and other peace-loving, advanced muslim groups do not engage in terrorism even in the face of sunni genocide. African-Americans experienced bigotry and discrimination even lynching and still face police killing. They did not do anything like this. There are jewish, hindu, christian, buddhist, shia and atheist minorities living in peace among majority religions across the world.

Being able to condone the senseless slaughter of innocents should not be required to establish a country or a community’s bonafides for religious tolerance and capacity for compassion.

Let us show the peace-loving entrapped in these barbaric and virulent religious groups and cults love and kindness and accept them amongst us and show them a way. However, there is a need to win heart and minds and change underlying values and improve socialization skills across the board because this is a worldwide problem and it should become unacceptable to every religiously misguided sunni drawn to jihadi terrorism.

No single country christian, jewish, hindu, buddhist, sikh, muslim, atheist or agnostic can stamp out this jihadi epidemic of terrorism alone. This is indeed global.

Education, financial controls on funding of mosques and regime change in Saudi Arabia are alll needed.

There are too many fundamental differences you are ignoring and drawing a false equivalence between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. The Christchurch gunman’s act was a crime. The gunman himself was at the site of the jihadi sunni terrorist attacks in France.

Let us not glorify religious terrorism by comparing it to crimes. The sunni jihadis in Sri Lanka had nothing to do with New Zealand to justify killing their neighbors.

Did you think I was defending the Muslims who bombed the churches? I wasn’t.

I’m a little concerned that the response is to give sweeping powers to the security forces that apparently didn’t do anything about the warnings that they received. Will this be a chance to round up the usual suspects?

Wijewardene did not offer any evidence for the connection between the attacks in Sri Lanka and New Zealand, and when later pressed, said it was because churches and foreigners were targeted. (WaPo)

Not exactly evidence one could bet the farm on.

Edit: Doesn’t exactly take into account the likely numerous Buddhist, Muslim, and other staff and guest victims in the hotel and overpass bombings. But hey, as Suckabee Sanders would say, if it sounds good, just make it up.

Sounds just like the GWB Administration and CIA’s Alex Station unit before 9-11.

The current Sri Lankan government is on the side of thenangelsnin.terms of leading that country out of the morass of conflict they have experienced. They did not react swiftly enough to the warning they received but were open about that failure. I’m comfortable that he made that statement on the basis of IC information he.does not.wish to disclose further. “Undisclosed sources” can cover a multitude of sins so YMMB.

  1. If you had read my comment, you would hace learned that I was discounting the possibility of a link between the two attacks, not making one.

  2. The Christchurch shootings were definitely a terrorist act against Muslims by an extremist right wing white Australian man. Don’t you dare try to downplay it - it happened in my country, and it affected my fellow citizens as well as visitors.

  3. Your comment makes very little sense. It reads like word salad.
