Discussion: Spokesperson: Despite Allegations Against Him, Franken Won't Resign

Yes it has. He has done a lot more than throw out zingers, too. For one thing, he’s shown Jeff Sessions as the liar he is.

Victoria Jackson is a rightwing nut job too.

That the question is even being asked shows us how thoroughly wired for republicans the media is.

(The only thing that made the story even the tiniest bit interesting was that we expect republicans to grope women, decent democrats not so much.)

Franken has called for an investigation. Based upon comments from the photographer and both Franken’s and Tweeden’s military escorts, I expect several things to be discovered. One Tweeden was an active participant in the frat boy photo joke. Additional photos will be released to document that. The rehearsal will cease to be a “he said, she said” because others were witnesses and one witness has already disputed Tweeden’s account.

Franken knows what facts will surface in an investigation. He is right not to resign and I see no problem with him remaining in the Senate or running for reelection.

Yeah he wouldn’t have called for an investigation if he wasn’t sure of himself.

He has become a darling of the left because he does his homework, reads volumes before hearings, listens to his constituents, asks hard questions, and takes his job seriously. The “zingers” are usually well crafted attempts to make a point. Unless there is a pattern of this type of behavior, one can only conclude that it was a childish prank in an entertainment venue. And he should apologize, and he has. I do not for one minute believe Tweeden was traumatized. And, like others have said, who has someone photograph their assaults?

Wait a minute here – a ghost (of Eustace, even!) is pointing us to a time traveler? I am completely convinced by everything here.

So she rubbed herself without invitation on a male performer and grabbed his ass… she needs to apologize & resign… oh right.

The Robespierres need to take a step back.

Not my concern as long as his vote stays with the party. Senator Franken has made himself a brand by his talk show stuff and books. I really have never cared for that type of thing…But you better be above reproach if you do it.

Yeah, I don’t think he should have to resign over this.

I guess if a large majority of people in Minnesota made it clear that they wanted him to step down, then it would make sense to do so. Or if he decides that it’s too much of a distraction and he can’t be effective.

But unless there are more allegations, and/or more severe ones, I don’t think either of those things are going to happen.

If this is the extent of his misbehavior, I think he can and should ride it out. Take his lumps and move on.

Of course this episode will live on for many years in the right wing echo-chamber, where it will become a staple of “whataboutism” any time another Republican is accused of sexual misconduct. But they’ll do that whether he resigns now or not.

Good for him. This is damaging, and he can forget about playing any part on the national ticket in 2020, but this wasn’t a resignation-worthy offense.

The firestorm that got kicked up about this was reminiscent of the ACORN stuff years ago: when charges of wrongdoing led to a instantaneous, unthinking, massive Democratic overreaction and throat-cutting, and the discrediting and defunding of a highly effective voter registration organization, all of it turning out, in the end, to have been much ado about very little, straight out of the Republicans’ dark money dirty tricks machine.

When Democrats rush and jostle to prove how pure they are by destroying one of their own on command from a Republican dirty tricks squad, they achieve precisely nothing except one more dirty Republican victory.

In any case, any time Pinch Sulzberger’s New York Times instantaneously demands a Democratic resignation, it’s time for everybody’s BS-detectors to go on Defcon One.

Anyone remember Mark Sanford? I rest my case.

I think he should at least “I will resign for my behavior when the President steps down for his.”

I am still pissed he let himself be hobbled over this. Damn it.

Accusations? How about ONE accuser to which he has both admitted and apoligized. He’s not a sexual predator like Moore and Trump! He made a sexual advance and was denied but crossed the line…once and apoligized.

Unlike Trump who has at least SIXTEEN women who come forward and made explicitly complaints about Trump…including the rape of a 13 year old girl!

Unlike Moore who now has a case of undressing and fondling a 14 year old girl…and assaulting 9 others!

Trump and Moore…worse than Dennis Hastert who chased under aged teenage boys!

With more photos and the videos coming out, it is clear why Franken wants an investigation. The ex-Hooter and Playgirl who now works for the Mercers and part time for Fox isn’t looking so innocent. Check out this video where at about 5:50 (might be sooner) she rubs her but against the guitarist. When he pushes her away, she grabs his ass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU2u__yBP4M

I brought that up the other day - when they are Repugs, they get 2d, 3d, 5th and 8th chances. When they are Democrats they are instantly sent to Death Row.
