The men of the Trump Administration are tough negotiaters, as long as theyâre not in the same room with you.
Do I hear the sound of Trumpian backpedalling??
You have good ears. Most people canât hear slugs move.
"We werenât asking for a dealâŚwe were intimidating the shit out of âem.â
âMark Meadows came out of the meeting, he said thereâs no deal,â NBC News reporter Hallie Jackson asked Spicer at his daily briefing. âDoes the President acknowledge that this bill appears to be in trouble right now?â
âNo. Itâs not a question of trouble. Thereâs no deal,â Spicer said. âWe werenât asking for a deal.â
Though it ait gonna be successful, Trump was serious about primaring folks, right?
Reminds me of one of my earliest days in law practice ⌠a senior partner wanted information on an opposing counsel ⌠âI wish I knew how old he was â does anyone know if you can carbon-date slime?â
Pull the other one, it has bells on it. As I do with his boss, I automatically assume this dickhead is lying. My personal feeling is that this is not going to make it out of the House anyway (too many of the Krazy Kaucus think it doesnât go far enough for their tastes) and even if if does, i expect itâs DOA in the Senate. What scares me is what âAHCA IIâ will look like.
You know it is really hard to feel any sympathy for all these Republican voters who feel âbetrayedâ by Republicans doing what they have been promising for years.
I know. Like Kate Jenner. I mean, who knew?
Candidate Trump said he wanted health care coverage for everybody.
Now heâs enamored with a bill that will strip coverage from millions, a bill that a majority of voters donât support, as Plan A with no Plan B.
Only in Trumptopia does this compute.
A child with cookie crumbs all over his face and pudding stains on his clothes would make a more effective press secretary. Christ.
âWe Werenât Askingâ Freedom Caucus For Deal Over ACA Repeal Bill
That doesnât sound exceedingly contradictory with âIâm coming after you!â
(Absorbing a rare moment of cohesionâŚ)
So the plan is to insist the repeal happened, regardless of whether it does or not.
538 has a great piece that should be scaring the shit out of even House Republicans in gerrymandered districts.
It is based on a YouGov poll that broke down support/opposition to the GOP bill based on how people say they voted in November. Some highlights from 538:
â there are only about 80 congressional districts â out of 435 â where support for the bill exceeds opposition.
â there are only three of them â Alabamaâs 4th, Kentuckyâs 5th and Texasâs 13th â where supporters of the bill constitute an outright majority.
â there may not be any districts where vigorous support for the health care bill exceeds vigorous opposition. In the three districts noted above, strong opposition to the bill matches strong support for it.
Now, before you get too excited, remember that there are Trump voters who oppose the GOP bill because it isnât cruel enough for them; this is like a mirror image of the polling on the ACA, where there were liberals who opposed it because it didnât go far enough in providing affordable coverage.
Adding heavily in favor of the bill is the fact that many GOP members have to worry much more about the primary election than about the general, and most GOP members ran on a promise to try to repeal Obamacare.
I believe that the unpopularity of the bill wonât be enough to get many GOP members to vote ânoâ, but I think a lot of them will be very nervous about the 2018 impact.
We weâre TELLING um and threatened um againâŚand the success of doing this before means it WILL work âŚ
Coming after youâŚbut given Trumpâs organizational abilities heâll start picking candidates for the primaries a week after theyâve been held. No wait, more like a month.
@ottnott A key difference with liberal objections to the ACA: a majority of Republicans oppose Medicaid cuts. That doesnât signal burning, freedom-y passion to me.
Not until they throw dirt on it will I believe itâs dead (and I hope they put a shot in itâs head before they bury it so it doesnât come back). AHCAII: Straight repeal? I donât think they give up, but unless they want to work with Democrats on something that may actually work I donât know what else there could be.
