When Spicer et al. talk about the “deep state,” you want to remember that they’re referring to the parts of the government that do stuff almost every American wants, and often needs, to be done:
Make sure food isn’t contaminated with something
Put out forest fires
Gather and analyze information about foreign countries
Perform science research
Make sure Nana gets her Social Security check
Etc.
That’s who and what the Trump Administration is fighting.
In case you were still wondering if they were openly trying to dismantle the US government.
I think what I’m trying to say here is that we’ve now reached the point at which we no longer blink at the “holy fuck!” moments. We haven’t normalized Trump such that his aberrant behavior is considered normal, but we’ve become accustomed to being shocked such that it’s no longer truly shocking.
Which, granted, we did during the Bush years, but we really had no idea of how much worse things could get, notwithstanding that all the boundary destruction that happened then set the stage for what’s happening now.
Spicer went on to add “We haven’t had time yet to root out all the qualified capable people the Obama administration left in place and replace them with trumkins whose ideologies are more closely aligned with the donald. Only loyalty to the supreme leader matters competence no longer does.”
“I think there’s no question when you have eight years of one party in office that there are people who stay in government who are affiliated with, joined and continue to espouse the agenda of the previous administration,” he said. “So I don’t think it should come to any surprise that there are people that burrowed into government during the eight years of the last administration and, you know, may have believed that agenda and want to continue to seek it."
Is there any way to find out how many of W’s holdovers are still in government today?
Next up, Spicer will explain to the world how the moon landing was a hoax, but Trump will make America great again by putting a man on the moon by 2020 (for real this time).
I think this is an excellent point. I’m waiting for one of them to get arrested (but aware that anyone bringing any sort of charges will be painstakingly careful to get everything right). What better time for them to start wheeling around doing ridiculous things without any proof…
We are headed to the destruction of our country. The upcoming midterms are the most important elections - perhaps ever. Everyone should commit to donating time and money to flipping the House. If we don’t do it, we are doomed. And there’s NO good reason why we can’t.
