Discussion: Spanish Boat Saves 60 Migrants But Italy Refuses To Let Them Dock

I didn’t know Adolph Trump was also serving as Italy’s Interior Minister. Italy wouldn’t have this problem if they built a wall along its Mediterranean coast and sent the bill to the Central African countries.

Didn’t Italy collaborate with the Nazi’s a tad?

Amazing how history repeats itselfs. Italy is regressing to the late 1930’s, and the USA is regressing to 1860.

Maybe the immigrants need to stop claiming to be immigrants and tell the Europeans that they have come to Europe to colonize it.

Is TPM trying to drive me to suicide?

Sono devastato. Already, too.

What better way to prove your supremacy than to show that you occupy the top of the food chain.

From your link:

Sebby-Strempel used to be an independent consultant for skincare company Rodan + Fields, but after her actions, the company said in a statement to CNN that she doesn’t work there anymore.

“Independent consultant.” Oooh. Such a fancy way of saying “caught in the clutches of a multi-level-marketing company, harassed friends, neighbors and relatives for months, and still hasn’t broken even.” If this was the only thing I knew about her, I’d feel sorry for her.

Also from your link:

It’s only the most recent in a long string of mundane activities like golfing, napping, leaving an Airbnb and sitting in Starbucks in which black people have been racially profiled and a white person has called the police.

Add walking your dogs as a suspicious activity. This was last month, outside San Diego:

Black man walks his dogs down his block, ends up pictured in hunt for burglary suspects

Although… billed in the press release as looking “similar to Suspect 2 in the burglary,” their only similarity is skin color. Suspect 2 is listed in the release as 20 to 35 years old, 6 feet to 6-feet-5 and weighing 260 pounds. Iloputaife is 5 feet, 9 inches, is in his mid-50s and weighs 195 pounds.

The police actually had a near-plausible reason for naming the dog walker as a person of interest, the real creep in the story was a civilian:

A woman who lived around the corner from the burglarized home had snapped the photo of Iloputaife that morning when he walked past her house because, she told investigators, he was “a stranger” on her street. It was taken from behind at a significant distance. After the burglary, the woman — whose identity is unavailable — shared the photo with investigators.

No different then when the US wouldn’t let Jewish refugees in during the Holocaust. The world is really fucked.

There are certainly those who would say this is karmic payback to Europe for centuries of colonization. Without trying to justify that history, looking at it from the viewpoint of a modern-day white European, the Mediterranean boat people are a real issue because of not only the sheer numbers that have arrived in the past five years but because of often sometimes extreme cultural differences and poor assimilation. Take a look at the book The Strange Death of Europe. Whatever you might think of the author’s viewpoint (xenophobic, Islamophobic, racist - I’m sure he’s been called all those things), he describes a pretty serious problem that is fueling the rise of xenophobia and nationalism that we see making a big political splash across Europe. Compared to them, our mostly Hispanic immigration issue is a cakewalk. Our immigrants generally assimilate very quickly due to a number of characteristics of our situation, though one might be forgiven for thinking that even the USA’s immigration volume is perhaps not an unalloyed good. These are complex issues, but I’d much rather be dealing with ours (and not in any way like Trumpistas do) than Europe’s.

Italy has its own version of the Orange Stain. This is of considerable concern as more countires elect hard right dictators (and Italy REALLY should know better). My thoughts are with folks who made the journey. I hope they ultimately will find a welcoming land to call home.

Not that Italy gets a pass for being inhuman, but seriously, why didn’t the Spanish boat take them to Spain where, apparently, more civil humans make their nest?
