Discussion: <span class="s1">Hackers Find Way To Make Self-Aiming Sniper Rifle Change Its Target (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #238917

This is why the gun nuts got all upset last year about that safety feature–electronic ID, so a cop’s pistol would only work for him, not for a bad guy who snatched it away. They hated that! Now we see why: the more guns become smart (like every other appliance and tool in the modern world) the more smart people can control them. This leaves the dumb people left out.

The gun makes it possible to ā€œto shoot around corners, record your hunt, and share your experience with friends and family,ā€ according to the product’s website.

A wireless riffle for consumers? is that what I’m reading about? Fuck. What could possible go wrong?

Man really is the most dangerous game of all.

I think the hackers practiced on the Republican presidential candidates before they got to work on the truly dangerous weapon.

Hey, maybe we can get our hackers to use the self-aiming sniper rifle to shoot the Planned Parenthood hackers through the Intertubes.

"The gun makes it possible to ā€œto shoot around cornersā€¦ā€ Unless the is the new Angelina Jolie design, I’m assuming they mean that the gun is positioned on one side of the corner and marksman is positioned safely on the other side?

Y’know, I keep hearing about this wonderful new ā€œInternet of Thingsā€ where everything can be controlled remotely over wireless IP connections. I can’t think of anything more irresponsible. It should be called the ā€œIncredibly Dangerous Internet of Thingsā€.

There’s a strange disconnect between the men and women who put themselves into harms way to defend our communities and country, and the breed of commander… leader… top brass… whatever you want to call them. On the one hand, we commend the bravery of those who put their lives in harms way to help others (omitting racist/crazy/gung-ho nut-jobs), but then strive to ensure we can inflict the maximum damage with the minimum risk. Now the fear mongers don’t even need to touch or be within a mile to fire a weapon… let the computer do it while I cower in the corner, rocking myself back and forth safe from the world.

Everything about the direction our military technology is heading is wrong. No personal risk, no personal accountability, no personal skill. I hope the creators of these ā€˜advancements’ suffer at the hands of their own Frankenstein Monster.

Saw that attempted on Mythbusters. Didn’t work well

Judged solely by the sound of the number of trigger pulls the average hunter here in South Carolina uses to bring down a single buck and the number of cows, pigs and horses that are routinely killed, I would say: Why bother with hacking the targeting computer? Because these ā€œhuntersā€ are going to miss anyway, regardless of how good or how much their telescopic sighting system costs, and already try and shoot around corners.
