We cannot ignore the record evidence that, because of race, the legislature enacted one of the largest restrictions of the franchise in modern North Carolina history.

We therefore reverse the judgment of the district court. We remand the case for entry of an order enjoining the implementation of SL 2013-381’s photo ID requirement and changes to early voting, same-day registration, out-of-precinct voting, and preregistration.

NC will appeal to SCOTUS and be granted an emergency order to allow the law to remain in effect until after the election.

I don’t know how anyone can, with a straight face, make the argument that it is better for 1000s of people not to vote in order to prevent a couple people from voting more than once. That’s the claim they are making with these stupid laws. It’s obvious what their intent is, and the court sees right through them.

So this goes to the SCOTUS. If it ends up with a 4-4 tie, does that mean that this ruling would stand?
