“Although no Jews live in the town today…”

Really? That’s odd.

“Although Jews were killed in the area, researchers believe the town got its current name from Jewish residents who converted to Catholicism and wanted to reinforce their repudiation of Judaism to convince Spanish authorities of their loyalty, Rodriguez said.”

How clever is that?
Can’t you see a Torquemada studying a map trying to decide where to strike next and assuming that a town called “Camp Kill The Jews” probably doesn’t need any further attention?

What about all of the Spanish references to “Matamoros”?

But they’re still going to call the soccer team the Redskins, Gol durnit!

In keeping with recent voting trends in Europe, the townspeople have decided to rename their village “Camp Kill Muslims.”

Austin_Dave, I deeply regret that I can “like” your Washington Redskins post above only once.

Bravo, sir. Bravo!

Didn’t take the Jew that long to take over the USA, but it was only founded the same year the Jew was thrown out of Spain?

And they changed it to “Concentration Camp Kill Jews”

There. Glad that’s settled.

So when are they going to get rid of all those places called Matamoros or Mataindios?

Baby steps…

“Matamoros”. The name is already taken.

Drat. I’ll bet someone’s already nailed down the domain name, too.

The name Matajudios (Kill the Jews) is offensive because the Jews were defenseless. Matamoros (Kill the Moors) is not at offensive (to me anyway) because the Moors were well armed and fought rather well. I suspect every country and culture has place names that reflect brutal pasts. I believe the beautiful town of Amherst in western Massachusetts was named after a man who used biological warfare against the natives (blankets with smallpox).
