If they’re “white nationalists,” they may have.
Gee looks like they had to pay all of last week’s take from chumps as a fine for slandering an anti-muslim organization:
“The Southern Poverty Law Center, the advocacy organization known for exposing hate groups and fighting for civil rights, has agreed to pay $3.38 million and issue public apologies to an activist who challenged his inclusion in a 2016 SPLC publication that labeled him and several others “anti-Muslim extremists.””
Only a “certified moron” would use the word “racist”?
Or did you mean “rutabaga”? Or perhaps “ranunculaceous”?
i.e. illicit canoe-dling…
Until more information is released, we’re all speculating. Here is my guess: Dees is an old white man. A good old white man, but an old white man nonetheless. Aging has many effects, one of which is becoming crankier. Another is a loosening of “appropriate” behavior. Still another involves the arc of mental decline and dementia. We have all seen examples of all three. IMO, ignorant though it may be, it was a combination of all 3 that came to a head. It may have been an “incident,” it may be the accumulation of small or not-so-small transgressions. Regardless, SPLC and Dees have been giants in the advocacy of civil rights and should be remembered for that. If he needs to go now, so be it. I hope it’s not worse, but I think/hope that this is the action of a good organization making sure it lives according to its principles and continues to do so going forward.
Even Gary Hart’s marine tryst with Donna Rice pales in comparison with a candidate paying hush money to a porn star to buy silence for an affair with her that occurred when his third wife was nursing (?) a newborn, with marriage to the third wife being the result of an affair while he was still married to the second wife whom he married after divorcing his first wife who claimed at one point that he raped her while she was married to him.
Or his brother leveraging his close access to the halls of power to … endorse a really bad beer.
So…sexual harrassment?
Most of my friends are developmentally disabled, and they resent the implication. There are plenty of insults available, no need to denigrate a community that’s already getting hung out to dry by that jerk’s stupid budget for jerks.
Now, now. He does the best he can.
Nick is one of those muddled thinkers who manages to convince himself that he has successfully cast off the yoke of more conventional (a.k.a. rational) thought. This gives him the illusion of superiority over those he perceives as the sheep. He’s enlightened. He has discovered the truth. Others are just slaves to their mistaken opinions. It quickly becomes the same kind of non-falsifiable belief that one encounters in zealots of many stripes (religious, political, etc. - take your pick) and in NPD sufferers like Trump.
Since this is a matter of faith, rather than reason, arguing with the sufferer is a waste of your time, and his. It’s like giving a pig a songbook.
Either that, or he’s just a Russian bot.
I thought your right-wing crap was limited primarily to your views on women but apparently I missed everything else, or else maybe the misogynistic rot spread. I guess that happens when you “red pill.”
He just thinks he’s taken the red pill. The scales have fallen from his eyes, and he perceives the vast truth to which the rest of us are blind.
We’ve all known people like this, going all the way back to elementary school. Sometimes, that kid is right - Santa Claus really is just your parents - but most of the things he’s “wise to” turn out to be nonsense.
In adulthood, people like this take great pride in the fact that they, and only they, are aware that everyone - absolutely everyone - is a crook or a hypocrite. In some cases they veer off into conspiracy theories - the mindset leads in that direction.
Oh yes, and because he’s so enlightened, he must stick around to bully and provoke. That pill came with such a bitter taste that never goes away. Misery lives company, but maybe he could go find another right-wing yard to piss in.
Maybe he even has legitimate complaints about potential mismanagement of the SPLC. Still not a good enough reason to shit on what with they have done, to deny the need for the kind of work they do in this political climate, or to malign its supporters with a ridiculously broad brush. Sigh.
Straight out of the ScFi I read in my teens. Sad.
The need for external validation runs deep in these poor dears.
It’s generally a compensating mechanism, but compensating for what, I couldn’t say without meeting him. But I’ll wager it would become obvious within minutes.
Sanders can stay in the senate as long as he can function. The executive branch is another matter. Too much individual authority.
Hey… what is this, the serial cliffhanger news?? What could this be? For a group that did so much good for so long, it must’ve been a biggie. More than a little slap and tickle in the copier room. Hope SPLC manages to muddle through.
I didn’t read beyond the cover either.
Yeah, I quit donating right about the time I realized they had more money than God. Other orgs doing very good work have way, way less cash.
And they keep it offshore, so that it cannot be properly evaluated.
There’s no difference between Dees and Richard Viguerie, the guy who invented right-wing mail-based fund-raising. Dees fleeces left-wing chumps, Viguerie fleeces right-wing chumps. The same techniques are used - gin up panic, send endless mailings and followups, never be accountable on the vig. Left-wing chumps are more credulous, it’s clear.
About 20 years ago, Dees ran into a problem. There were too few hate groups around. The KKK was a pitiful shadow of the power that it was in the 1920s. The American Nazis were a joke due to WWII. What to do, what to do? Simple. Make “hate group” more universal. Anything that Dees disagreed with was a “hate group”. And the moronic chumps that he fleeced never questioned it. He conflates political action groups (who, in a constitutional manner, produce public-policy proposals) with hate groups. But left-wing hate groups never make the cut. Antifa is not in the “hate groups” list.
