Discussion: Southerland

Discussion for article #229211

Huh? I don’t get why it mattered whether he read the SENATE bill or not - he’s in the HOUSE and voted against the HOUSE bill.

What a weasel excuse.

Rep. Steve Southerland (R-FL) said he didn’t read the Senate version of a Violence Against Women Act reauthorization, and that was why he voted against it.

…

His campaign also released an ad saying that he supported reauthorization of VAWA.

Perfect. How’s that outreach going, asshole?

If they don’t let you have time to read it- demand the time. Or you know, get a copy BEFORE they have a vote on it.

He seems to be relying on the incompetence defense. He didn’t know what he was voting against.

And the thing is, incompetence is an acceptable defense in Congress.

Yes - and, while I shouldn’t be, I am always astounded that these guys seem PROUD of being incompetent.

It’s a perfect example of why the conservatives are now regressives. He’s unfamiliar with it, so he’s against it.

Wait a minute. You mean to tell this clown is trying to win the female vote but did not read a crucial bill impacting women and now he makes it sound as if it is not a big deal?

For a $200,000 yearly salary plus huge benefits, he’s just too fucking busy to read stuff that’s a required part of his job?

WTF, O?

Must be hard staying up so late every night attending fundraisers.

“I Didn’t Read Senate Version Of VAWA”

he then added, “I learned everything I needed to know about it from Fox News”

So basically he says he’s too incompetent/lazy to do his job but he’s asking to keep his $174,000 salary.

If Gwen Graham doesn’t use this in her campaign in the next couple weeks, something’s wrong.

Do the two chambers not talk to each other? Do the members of the GOP in the house and Senate ignore each other? How about the democrats?
Gee wizz, talk about dysfunctional government…

I ought to run for Congress. I like the benefits and the pay. And especially the work load. I would only have to show up 113 days out of the entire year. I can take the entire month of August off and an average of two weeks every month as well.

On McCarthy’s “majority leader” web site is a story about some gov’t workers on paid administrative leave lasting weeks, months, even years and he says it isn’t smart government. Well I’d say crowing about being in session 113 days a year isn’t smart either.
What a bunch of bums.
