Discussion: South Carolina Sheriff: NAACP Is A ‘Racist Group’ Just Like The KKK

One of the things I notice when I go down south to visit my (white) family is how absolutely fking obsessed people are down there about race. Sooner or later every barbecue or gathering will end up having a big discussion about blacks or Mexicans and how they behave and what they want and why they’re always wrong and all the crimes they commit. It absolutely blows my mind.

Just a few thousand lynched, burned and murdered citizens short with that comparison, Gommer. Just a whole lotta short going on there.

I actually know this man, and he’s a bigot. Last week he threatened to beat any transgender woman who uses the women’s bathroom. Of course he said he’d do it to protect his wifemily. The next day I saw a picture of a trans teen born a girl but who considers herself male. She looks male. I thought of Sheriff Wright and wondered if he’d beat him up for using a woman’s bathroom. After all he does still have female genitals and under these new laws he’d be required to use a the bathroom that matches his genitalia. But, how could the Sheriff tell? He looks male and Wright would certainly need to protect us poor womenfolk who might feel in danger as the trans teen uses the appropriate bathroom.

Nothing this man says surprises me. He’s your typical GOP politician from the Deep South. I’m sure he doesn’t miss a Sunday at church but forgot to listen to part where they talk about judging others, and the sermon on compassion was certainly missed.

PS it’s people like this that make me want to leave SC as soon as we possibly can.

He’s actually the sheriff of Spartanburg County in SC. It doesn’t get much more conservative than the upstate of SC and Sheriff Wright fits right in.

There are just too many morons to count anymore.

Even if he underwent full surgery, under the law he’d still be required to use the bathroom corresponding to the genitalia he used to have.

Please, do tell us again how black people should overwhelmingly prefer Bernie over Crooked Hillary and how BernieBros are a media fabrication.

Somehow they’re OK, and a similar organization called the “National Association for the Advancement of White People” would be unthinkable.

The ignorance inherent in this statement is so stupendously vast that the Valles Marineris could fit inside and still have room for the Grand Canyon.

I used to tell kids at my largely urban school to take a drive about half an hour out of town to see what their state really looked like–rural, farms, small towns.
Perhaps we could arrange something like that for the sheriff and his ilk, but out into the 21st century.

Once in a while, one of them gets knocked off his horse by a bolt of lightning. But then you have to wait for the scales to fall from their eyes. Doesn’t always happen. The idiot sheriff in Arizona who crowd-funded his heart attack rather than sign up for Obamacare is a case in point.

The current line popular with winger is “I’m don’t see color.” followed by the zinger " It’s you liberals and Democrats who want to divide us by race." Followed by the ultra zinger "the real racists are liberal groups like ‘Black Lives Matter’ ( the current winger demon, but it could be anyone else- like the NAACP) Obviously this guy got the propaganda line wrong thus making him look like what he really is.

I didn’t know that. A terrible law that’s even worse than i realized.

Yep. The law says you’re required to use the bathroom according to the gender given on your birth certificate. Which means that legally, this guy has to use the women’s bathroom.

And good old Sheriff Wright would have to kick his ass for obeying the law.

“Nuh, dey jus’ make mah head hurt. Lak now.”

It exists already, and it’s called the KKK. Duh.

“Christ made us all the same.”

Correction: The Flying Spaghetti Monster made us all the same.

We really don’t need to be debating the merits of his statements, do we? I mean, the answers - so obvious, and come on, look at the audience. The real question is how appropriate is it to have open political views, and be in a position of power. If this guy were working anyone but the government he would be fired.

He’ll be easily elected again. That kind of ignorance, racism and bigotry plays well in South Carolina. Spartanburg is part of Trey Gowdy’s district. Racism is part of who many are. People here say the N word in front of me on a pretty regular basis. After all, I’m white so they are pretty sure it’s a part of my vocabulary. Until living in the South I didn’t realize just how different the culture and the beliefs are.
