Discussion for article #236391
¿Qué candidato es el más tonto?
Sociopaths regret nothing.
Bush has made similar statements since leaving office in 2009. But Rubio appears to have been referring specifically to the former President’s frankest comments which came in his 2010 memoir Decision Points where he repeatedly acknowledges intelligence failures. (Rubio’s campaign did not respond to queries requesting more details on which statements of the former President he was referring to.)
Two key passages stand out …
Still, I knew the failure to find WMD would transform public perception of the war. While the world was undoubtedly safer with Saddam gone, the reality was that I had sent American troops into combat based in large part on intelligence that proved false. That was a massive blow to our credibility— my credibility— that would shake the confidence of the American people.
And later …
No one was more shocked or angry than I was when we didn’t find the weapons. I had a sickening feeling every time I thought about it. I still do.
so shocked he joked about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKX6luiMINQ
It’s a long election season. For the media, bloggers and commentors in general to hold GOP candidates to some standard of truth, common sense and intellectual consistency is going to make it seem like an eternity. A story could be written every day for everyone running about how something they’ve said or done borders on insanity and head scratching “WTF are they talking about?” territory. Geez, a year and a half of this. It would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic. One of these knuckleheads might become President.
Moron then, moron now, moron always. Toss-up between Buchanan and W as to who was the worst president. The former pretty much condoned treason and allowed the South to steal and stockpile munitions prior to the war thereby allowing the South to start a war. W merely destroyed this country economically, while also killing and maiming tens of thousands of US soldiers. Ok, Buchanan is worse, but W is #2!
“Thou shalt not bear false witness.” Any good Catholic knows that…
President George Bush sparked a political firestorm yesterday after making what many judged a tasteless and ill-judged joke about the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Mr Bush made the joke at a black-tie event for radio and television journalists in Washington on Wednesday night.
He narrated a slide show, described as the White House election year album, making hay of the administration’s reputation for secrecy and strained relations with European allies. But it was the joke about the war in Iraq that drew attacks.
A slide showed Mr Bush in the Oval office, leaning to look under a piece of furniture. “Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere,” he told the audience, drawing applause.
Another slide showed him peering into another part of the office, “Nope, no weapons over there,” he said, laughing. “Maybe under here,” he said, as a third slide was shown.
John Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat who will fight Mr Bush for the White House said the joke displayed a “stunningly cavalier” attitude.
Yeah, I'm sure he's still losing sleep over it.....................
“President Bush has said he regrets that the intelligence was faulty.”
Following sufi66’s sociopath trail, does Bush regret that Cheney cooked the intelligence? Does he regret that everybody knows that Cheney cooked it and this could still get hung on Bush? Does he consciously deny that Cheney merely did Bush’s bidding, or does he, as a true sociopath, deeply repress his own culpability for cooking up the crackpot intelligence?
The biggest regret of all the presidency has to have been the intelligence failure in Iraq," Bush told ABC in December 2008.

“Stay thirsty my friends!”
Thanks for this article. That admission never fucking happened. I knew I hadn’t missed the big kahuna moment that never came in all the years I heard the man speak. There was no confession by Dubya. It just never happened. If Dubya thinks he’ll get a pass now by this rewriting of history (its what Republicans do after all) he can rest assured that there are people who will clear the record…and that’s important.
Dubya always said something like “let history decide if he was right. He’ll be dead”, or something to that effect. Well, it didn’t take that long…we’re all still alive. The evidence has been thoroughly sifted through, and the verdict has come in earlier than he had hoped. The Iraq War was a mistake, a clusterfuck of a mistake. It was an unnecessary preemptive bullshit run-around in trying to remake the image of the Middle East in the Bushies image. Their hubris, inattention to detail, refusal to admit even one mistake for years… that’s how it went as I recall.
And now we’re all paying for their mistakes, having triggered resentment, instability in the region, and unleashed terrorist activity to take the place of what we should have done all along…minded our own damn business or at best, let the inspectors do their jobs and used diplomatic means to achieve our goals.
George Bush and his lackeys don’t get to rewrite this particular history any longer, and neither do his fellow travelers trying to run as the next Republican Presidential candidate.
Apart from Bolton, Cheney, and Bush and their hangers-on, the only people who still think the invasion of Iraq was a great idea live in Iran and Israel.
Bush has never admitted any mistakes or regrets. To the extent he has, he was sorry one of his subordinates made the mistake.
You can fool all of the people some of the time…
Never underestimate the U.S. electorate’s susceptibility to being bamboozled by a Prez candidate. Remember “trickle down economics”? Reagan parlayed economic voodoo into two terms in office, the rubes falling for the theory if only rich people could keep a helluva a lot of their money instead of paying taxes we’d all get wealthy. Bush convinced the same rubes Muslims were all out to kill us in our sleep and got a second term. Obama told us he’d restore the 4th Amendment to legitimacy, shut down GITMO, rein in the NSA/CIA and clean up Bush’s mess in Iraq/Afghanistan. I think he’s batting an O’fer on those promises. Voters are idiots. Tell’em what they want to hear, they’ll fall for it. Rubio knows that. They all know that.
Rubio and Jeb so not ready to be President.
Did anyone really believe that the men sawing off the heads of innocent captives or blowing themselves up in markets would have been peaceful citizens if only we had left Saddam Hussein alone? If these fanatics had not been trying to kill Americans in Iraq, they would have been trying to do it elsewhere. And if we were to let them drive us out of Iraq, they would not have been satisfied to stop there. They would have followed us back.
This is just nuts. No, some of the men now running ISIS would have been busy terrorizing Iraqi Shiites to keep Saddam in power and looking to fend off Iran. Some of the dupes of ISIS – so appalled at the killing of innocent Muslim civilians by the US and by the slaughter of Sunni Iraqis by unforgiving Iraqi Shiites and the uncontrolled slaughter by Assad that they have lost their own moral compasses – would be peacefully studying medicine in the Western countries. where they are citizens. I could go on – the great wrong that Bush committed has had domino like consequences.
From public statements and his memoir the former President has been clear that he still believes
the decision to invade Iraq was the right decision, even in retrospect,
and that the world and the United States is a safer place for his doing so.
Rot in Hell George.

And let’s not forget how long these same fucking Republicans went out of their way to repeatedly lie, by convincing the country that Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11. It was an intentional effort by every single Republican out there, not just the loyal Bushies, to conflate two unrelated things into one fucking ruse. In other words, it was a strategy to provide them cover for their misdeeds. It was only a couple of years ago that people who vote Republican finally caught on to the rest of the country in accepting the actual truth of the matter.
Yes, and those newly sentient GOP voters punished their candidates and party by going to the polls and voting in Republican majorities in both house of Congress. Yeah, they’re thoroughly disillusioned alright. Uh huh, they caught on.
