Discussion: Some Vulnerable Senators Suggest They'll Skip GOP Convention

Maybe Dick Cheney will finally be invited this year just to help fill the stage.

This GOP melt-down is seriously the best show of the year.

Kudos, Reince!

Only a bunch of GOPers could hold a convention where nobody shows up.

Ayotte: I need to campaign in my own state to ensure that each and everyone knows that I will not let Obama pick a supreme court nominee.

Another Bush who won’t be there would be the one nicknamed W I’ll bet. Wasn’t allowed at the last one either. What’s up with that? This time Clint Eastwood may be doing his rant to the hundreds of empty chairs in the auditorium if current trends continue.

Kelly Ayotte is the most incompetent, lazy and ignorant person in the Senate. The only thing she has accomplished as senator has been melding with the furniture, being a dowdy wallflower in a skirt and a prop to distract from the ugly Ms. Lindsey Graham and John McCain.

Love this. She is so deathly afraid of being photographed with Trump or Cruz (or their supporters) that she’s not coming within 600 miles of the place.

“One person who definitely won’t be in attendance? Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.”

Brave Sir Jeb!?

Who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor.

Who had nearly stood up to the Vicious Chicken of Bristol.

And who had personally wet himself at the Battle of Badon Hill.

Can’t wait for Toomey to announce that he, too, has some pressing business in the middle of the summer that precludes his presence at Trump-Cruz-palooza.

A month or so ago, I said this is the tell, that this is the sign that GOP Senators up for reelection are running scared. They know this thing is going to be an epic shitshow and they’re trying to divorce themselves from their own party.

Whomever is nominated won’t hurt Senators in bright red states because the nominee won’t even have to campaign there. But tell me how the hell Portman, Toomey, Ayotte, Kirk, Johnson, Burr, and the R nominee in FL will escape the top of the ticket. How are GOP Senators and Senate candidates in pink, purple, or bluish states going to avoid the nominee when he’s cross crossing their state and holding big campaign rallies? And won’t they risk pissing off their base if they’re seen to be actively avoiding the nominee? And if the nominee is thin-skinned Trump, he won’t dare accept being ignored. Nope, there’ll be retribution. Think Glenn Close and what happened to that poor bunny.

Read this with Jeff Foxworthy’s voice

If you can’t show up to your own party’s showcase event, you might NOT be a Republican.

And to think it was just over 10 years ago-- (R)s marched in lockstep, to the beat of the RightWingWurlitzer–
all for the glory of the 1000 Year Reich– er, 100 Year (R) Majority.

It felt futile then-- to resist the Delays and Gingriches, then Bush and Cheney.
But no more.

Come November 9th?
We (D)s start with downhill POTUS momentum.
And-- how sweet it would it be-- to have a Senate-majority wind-at-our-backs as well?

Giving new meaning to the old concert-cry:

Cleveland Rocks!

Here’s to rocking it really hard in July.

These people should know by now that they can run but they cannot hide.
