Yeah or you could take the sane and easy way - pressure McConnell to bring the House bill to the floor. Vote for it with a veto-proof majority.

Government opens.

You gutless wonders.

Goddess save us from these mediocre white men! They’ve all packaged up their balls and handed them to Drumpf in a paper bag. How embarrassing…

Yes, exactly. McConnell owns this just as much as Trump. Trump screwed him by backing out of a deal that the Senate passed by unanimous consent. Only a bootlicking coward would do the bidding of someone who cut the branch out from under him.

Apparently they will be disappointed. The house can challenge an state of emergency, and there is jail to be given for fake emergencies. Lawyers probably talked the dotard out of that one.

That say, this is 19:00 EST he might still change his mind or just outright wing it during the speech. Watch for expressions of horror.

Kennedy is dumb. He’s taking heat for the #TrumpShutdown, and he’s a Trump lackey grasping at a straw.

By all means, set this precedent. Come January 2021 we very well may have a D president who sees gun violence, healthcare costs, global warming, etc. as national emergencies.

The President has been in office for two years, nothing has changed on the border and all of a sudden it’s an emergency? My ass! And the response to the emergency is to build a will that would take years to build under the most optimistic estimates and more likely will never get built even if Congress were to authorize it, because much of the land is private and the landowners will fight it tooth and nail.

Heaven forbid that the Republican Senators would get together and confront Dear Leader and remind him that he is not a dictator. But they are a bunch of frightened dufuses who rival Lump in his ignorance and cravenness.

I’m trying to figure out how this rates as more of an emergency than Hurricane Maria did. Can’t we just solve the border crisis by throwing paper towels?

The national emergency for Trump is the…ah…interesting news from the Mueller team and the SDNY. The walls that Trump fears are closing in. Time to distract.

GOP is just hoping the media can spin this for Trump and pressure the Dems to bend a little. Not going to happen. Reopen the gov’t first. Then we’ll talk. Now, Murkowski is on board with opening the gov’t and I keep hearing that there are more House GOPers who will vote for the bills that Pelosi is bringing up this week.

EXACTLY!

And if Obama had even HINTED at this, Articles of Impeachment would have been on the floor in under an hour with all the Republican Senators begging for the trial.

According to the NYT:

There are currently 31 national emergencies that are ongoing. The oldest dates back to 1979, when President Jimmy Carter invoked one to freeze Iranian government assets. The Trump administration has issued three emergency declarations so far, most recently in late November freezing the property of certain Nicaraguan officials.

31 national emergencies that are ongoing? Who knew?
