Ya? Duh.

Keep in mind that this whole debacle - especially the timing of it - was crafted by Trump and/or his inner circle. They convinced Judge Kennedy that this was an opportune time to retire. He and they (his inner circle) turn everything toxic. Every time.

Nothing Kennedy wrote while on the bench will equal the stain on his reputation from his shady-as-shit retirement to pave the way for Kavanaugh. It was the mistake of a lifetime.

“Republicans have to ask themselves if they’re willing not only to sell the soul of the party, but sell their own souls to get this particular conservative on the Supreme Court,” Horn said in an interview.

A bit late for asking that - they’ve already sold both, and don’t seem to have any regrets.

They’ve also sold the country down the river.

That’s saying something, given that he gave us Bush v Gore and Citizens United.

Now see this–the asshole is worried about ‘civic discourse’.

And this, from today’s Guardian, about the sickening pipeline through which rightwing hacks from Yale Law (including Kavanaugh) got clerkships with now-disgraced serial harasser Judge Kozinski who in turn fed them to Justice Kennedy:

I’m having an acute moment of disbelief and discouragement concerning everything about our government.
When was the last time a SC nominee of this caliber had to be rushed through the process? I understand why they’re doing this but it’s all so unethical.
The Republican party, party of limited government, family values and all that are in the sewer on all issues.
And, this doesn’t even take into account what passes for the person in the oval office.
Maybe we have to sink to huge depths to finally get people to start paying attention, maybe the mid-terms will start the process.
It is all beyond belief and we’re all sick of watching it.

First you have to have a soul to sell!

If Trumpp changed his campaign slogan to Hail Satan, they,d be lining up to buy new red hats.

The evangelicals apparently have this doctrine of the “imperfect vessel” – someone who carries out god’s will despite personal flaws.

Otherwise known as the ends justify the means, aka moral bankruptcy.

Polling indicates around 25-30% of the public still has no opinion or is undecided on whether or not Kavanaugh should be confirmed. Opposition runs a little stronger than affirmation, but neither gets much beyond 40%, and only about half of those that identify with either party feel strongly about it.

Presumably the undecided are mostly among the least likely to vote, and I would imagine the most concerned either way were already the most likely to vote. Even if withdrawing Kavanaugh causes a new spasm of rage among the right, they won’t abandon the Republicans, and can be somewhat mollified by a new conservative nominee. But sticking with him just cements the disgust women increasingly have for the Republican party, and is likely to still resonate in 2020.

The Republicans are insisting on playing out a weak hand, when they still have an opportunity to redraw.

It started with Jerry Swagart (sp?) and it keeps on rolling.

There is no question in my mind that the GOP’s antics this past month will cause Dems to outperform the polling averages by 3 to 5 points overall. That turns a wave into a Tsunami. If you look at the increase in volunteers, donations and correspondingly in voter outreach and intention to vote, the Dems have burst through all prior election cycles on those measures of voter intensity. A lot of reach districts are in play and Dems will get over the line in a fair number of them. It can’t be stopped.

Confirming Kavanaugh will deepen that anger, not deflate the movement. Dr. Ford has created a powerful political force.

On the GOP side, I don’t think confirming Ford particularly energizes their base any more than Trump’s election energized them to vote in all of these primaries and special elections in this election cycle. At the end of the day, the Kavanaugh appointment is personal to more Dems than to GOPers. That’s why I think you have to drill down to the state level and look at Collins/Murkowski/Manchin. In my view, the politics of this play to a ‘no’ vote.

McSally has come out as a survivor of sexual abuse at the hands of her high school track coach. At the same time, she has strongly embraced Trump…

JHC! Has this woman been repeatedly DROPPED ON HER F**KING HEAD???

What course of events might re-convince McSally that rape and assault and those who promote them are issues we go all out AGAINST?

What a world!

Sexual assault and harassment is first and foremost about power. It’s used to oppress people, pointedly women because our power is feared by small men.

What GOP men are showing they don’t understand is that when survivors discard the shame of their abusers it’s transformative, they become warriors. Shame is like a lead cloak, it dampens the spirit. They’ve awakened a million goddesses ready to avenge the suppression of our spirit.

He also declined to take questions from the audience. He urged the students to follow the Constitution and participate in civil discourse.

He’s worried about our discourse, concerned about democracy…

Translation: participate in public discourse as long as it’s not questioning the power & authority of people like me.
