Can he land his plane on the Capitol lawn?
Hooray, this is no mean feat. Really impressive, when you consider. Congrats to the Swiss and all who put their money into this astonishing project. But where, oh where is the boldness and vision of American venture capitalists? China and Europe are eating our lunch, we should be out front in these endeavors. And instead we spend our time lopping off mountaintops, consoling coal miners’ widows and bickering over pipelines.
And MSM, where are you? How about asking the GOP presidential candidates what they think about pollution-free air travel, or pollution-free anything? And that goes for you, too, TPM. Could we have a little less Palin and Trump and a little more environment, is that too much to ask? Who will remember those idiots 50 years from now, and who will curse us for ruining their world?
Really cool and all, but Borschberg is not a very eloquent spokesperson for his cause:
“Nobody now can say that renewable energies cannot do the impossible,”
Really?
Impossible is impossible. Renewable energies cannot reverse time. Renewable energies cannot make mice give birth to baby elephants. Renewable energies cannot make Nicolas Cage into a good actor. There, I just did it. Thrice. And it was easy.
On this and every other issue. Oh for the age of the documentary and long-form print journalism.
The engineless aircraft landed in silence
Engineless ? TPM, You can do better than that, it has 4 electric motors.
Five days? I’ll bet the flight attendants got really surly by about day 2.
Five days? 40MPH average speed? One passenger? Seems to me a solar-powered or, hybrid, dirigible carrying numerous passengers (and luggage) at about the same speed would make more sense.
It does open up many possibilities as you point out. Still, it is what might be called a “pilot project.”
